Vanity Mirror Issue TSB

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Good morning everyone,

I know there has been a thread or two regarding interior vanity mirror issues with them either breaking or not staying open or a whole host of other initial quality issues. Infiniti heard the complaints and has issued a TSB (ITB09-045) replaces the cover on EX and FX models within a certain vin range please see below for applicability

APPLIED VEHICLES: 2008-2009 EX35 (J50) 2WD and AWD2009 FX35 (S51) 2WD and AWD2009 FX50 (S51) AWD

What does this TSB say the fix is? Is there a new part they use that's sturdier? I just had my visor replaced last week due to the mirror cover breaking off... should I go back and have them do anything else to avoid the problem in the future?

well this seals the deal....the EX is a woman's car. What other car have you heard of gets a TSB for a vanity mirror.

Oh I needed that after the arduous day that was today. Thanks, first rounds on me.

In all honesty though, Infiniti is coming out with a bunch of tsbs like this to save some cash on warranty claims for things that only require a part worth a few cents. The process to replace some of these things can take 5x more time than replacing the surrounding component but they would rather pay labor instead of parts. It just makes some sense to save where they can. Although tomorrow I get to start my day with replacing a bushing in the inner most depths of a QX56s drivers seat track. Good Times.

hey steve i have a quick question..

i have a 2008 Ex AWD.. i took it in to have a passenger seat shaking issue ( while no one is sitting in it, very visible and can be felt) while driving, is this something you have seen? They responded that their is no TSB to account for this symptom

thanks

I just had my visor replaced. a week ago

I have to admit I have not seen this on any of the EXs I frequently see. That is not to say that I've never seen a QX56 with this complaint.

What I would do if I were your technician is drive the car at highway speeds before anything else. During this drive I would be looking for any type of vibration. Sometime a driveline vibration somewhere else other than the front wheels can actually cause some stray harmonic resonance to transfer through the floor. Since the only point of contact for the front seats is the floor something like a center bearing in the drive shaft or rear tires out of balance can cause this. If you stand on the passenger side and physically shake the seat there should only be a minuet amount of movement.

Now that I think about this more I have yet to see anyone in this service department replace and of the seat parts on any 07+ G or 08 EX. Not to say things don't happen in rare instances but if you do have a problem you might need to find something to show the dealer if they are unwilling to look into it.

Well speak of the devil. My vanity cover fell off just last week and they will be fixing it on Monday. It was the one on the driver side. Ever since I got the car it feel extra tight and squeeked when opened. The one on the passenger side feels looser. I wonder if they will replace that one too? I'll be asking now.
