So I watched vanilla sky yesterday and now I want to shoot myself in the head and have scorpions devour my body. That movie makes me want to cry and kick people all at the same time. I love Tom Cruise in a non-homosexual way. Penelope Cruz is AMAZING in this movie, I used to think that she was nothing more than hot latin booty, but now I see that she actually has talent. Cameron Diaz still makes me want to stomp a puppy into a jar but that's alright. This movie is waaaay rockin' and if you haven't seen it go do it.

Soundtrack = Betters than youz. Radiohead > Everything.

Now quit wasting time and go watch it. What are you doing! Go! Quit reading this and GO!!!!!

I liked the Vanilla Sky remake better than the original Open Your Eyes. Definitely one of my favorites.

I found it interesting to pick out all the details along the way that didn't quite fit (kind of like a real dream) like the outdated cars on the street etc.

I thought the movie had some flat spots but the ending was excellent.

I watched this in the theater and recommended it. following my advice, my older brother saw it. he said: "That movie was stupid, I didn't understand it."and I said: "its not the movie's fault that you are an idiot."

Meh. Cameron Crowe's a better director when he sticks to straight-forward narratives ie Say Anything, Almost Famous and Jerry Maquire. It's okay, but Vanilla Sky seemed like a 2-hour excuse to play a baby-boomers favorite tunes.

Playboy rich son of some publisher. Has everything he wants. Goes to a party, meets a beautiful witty Spanish woman played by Cruz. Asks for her help to get rid of uninvited guest who is also his f*** buddy played by Diaz. So Cruz and Cruise hit it off. Hang out at her place the entire night. He leaves absolutely in love with her. Upon leaving her place, Diaz pulls up into a car next to him. Asks him if he wants to go for a ride for old time's sake. She goes psycho. Drives the car off the road and ends up killer herself and leaving him very scarred and his face is absolutely hideous. And I don't want to give away the rest. The execution of the movie was very very good.

This movie will make you want to slit your wrists and watch again to pick out all the things you didn't notice.

It really did well with all the things that make it seem like a dream.

The Sofia character is freakishly a lot like my girlfriend. Which makes me wonder if I too am asleep.

Hmm....that's odd. I actually prefer Abres Los Ojos for the mere fact that Vanilla Sky is practically a shot-for-shot, word-for-word remake. The key contrasts between Vanilla Sky and A.L.O. specifically illustrates why American remakes of notable international flicks are usually watered-down clones.

Penelope Cruz was seductive in the first film, but a skin-crawlingly annoying twit in the remake. Whereas A.L.O. left much more to interpretation and was much more lyrical in comparison, Vanilla Sky was so much more literal. The latter also suffers from the band-aid "exposition" ending.

Do you speak Spanish Soph? Because I don't and the subtitles were FAR from being poetic/lyrical.

I'm well versed in Spanish actually. Not enough to hold an extended conversation but I can hold my own. I'll give Vanilla Sky some credit though, I appreciated the pop culture references and I loved the soundtrack, even though it was a bit intrusive.
