I went out to my car yesterday afternoon to find that someone had drawn a human organ (you can probably guess which one) in the dirt on my trunk lid. I was annoyed, but figured that it could be washed off. Wrong. I took my car in for service at the dealer this morning, and when they washed it they noticed a strange looking scratch, in the shape of said organ. It's a deep scratch. Needless to say I am VERY angry about this. People at my school have no respect for other peoples' cars. It sucks. I talked to a body shop and they said I could either have the trunk repainted or have it wet-sanded out. I think I know who is responsible, and the school administration is involved, so I am not going to be paying for repairs. What would be my best option? Would wetsanding just the trunk make it stand out from the rest of the car (and hence the whole car would need to be wet-sanded)?

Man I am sorry to hear about your bad luck.Vandals must Die!..

But I think if the Adminsitration is involved and they "got" him lots of ppunishment may rain down on him yet (even tho not quite the public flogging I would have in mind).

As for the wetsanding question I will defer to more expert members.

Fred...:)

A light sanding, (2000 grit) would probably remove the offending member (heh).

Get someone who knows what they're doing to do this, please, or it can look worse than it does now.

If you know anybody at a local reputable body shop, you can have the fairly simple finish work done by a pro for about an hour's worth of labor costs, or less. Well worth it if you ask me!

I've seen guys bust out the buffer and clean up similar damage in less than 10 mins. Only a small fee was needed to make things fair. That should be what happens in this case.

Yeah, I'm only looking to have it fixed. But I also don't want the area repaired to be noticable. Wouldn't wetsanding make the repaired area visibly shinier than the surrounding area?

I have no advice, just my condolences...sorry about your car! That kind of thing is just unnecessary and I hope they figure out who did it. With any luck, maybe you can exact a little personal revenge off campus ;)

"Offending member". A very apt description. It was so embarassing to have the Infiniti people notice it....

:(

I've been through the vandalism thing (courtesy of a gallon of black automotive paint thrown through my garage window....

I'd agree with these guys, but still take it to a high-end paint/body place for their advice.

I'm going to get the money for sure. I got it the last time the car was vandalized.
