Do you have renters or homeowners, sometimes that can cover???

Just a thought/hope.

THAT SUCKS!!!

Sounds like you might live in an apartment complex. Review your lease. There might be a loophole, where you can claim the complex did not supply adequate security, or their insurance company might cover the damage, since it is more than one leasee. Otherwise, you could check your homeowner's insurance, but I bet it won't cover your car. It would, however cover you, if you destroyed someone else's car, with, say, a golf ball, (Mine did - I nailed a little girl's Camry with a wicked slice off the 11th hole. Bounced once, and right into the windshield).

If the guy is caught, ask for life, or at least have them cut his feet off.

cops still havent showed up...

yeah jeff, it is an apartment, and i carefully re-read the lease just now, no loopholes. lol about the golfball, and the de-footing sentence.

just talked to the other owners, and they realy aren't concerned with repairing the damage.

dont have renter's insurance....possibly my parents homeowners would cover it, but i doubt it. (i also dont want to jack up their home (or my car ) insurance rates)

checked with infiniti, the hood is about 500 dollars, unpainted.

after the police show up, i guess ill take it to a body shop for an estimate, but if it is stretched, it wont be fixable.

then back to class at 5, time to design a formula SAE car.

[approx a size 14+ print, i bet this guy was carrying around a little weight, too]

4 steps on the hood, this and the one up near the wiper are the worst.

Sorry to hear about it man, been there

Went to a club in Jersey and had a 88 prelude. Horizontal parkedSome SOB decided it would be cool to walk the whole street on top of the cars. I guess the side walk was dirty

MY windshield was cracked (luckily no real hood damage) and trunk was very caved in.

I waited a year before repairing because money was tight and high deductible. As luck would have it my car was stolen and recovered and it was all covered under one deductible I guess i was lucky and unluck all at once

Does you complex have cameras? Maybe it caught someone on tape. Might help to talk to some neighbors. Maybe someone saw something

Bastards!!!

So sorry to see that... it really infuriates me no end to see people who are so cowardly that they'd damage someone's vehicle.

Loks repairable, but a hood is no fun to work on... Find a real good body shop (AFTER you move outta the apartment!)

Hey I feel for ya Eswift, a similar thing happened to me last year. I came out of my school and about halfway to my car I could see someone messed it up. It looked like somebody decided to just jump ontop of my hood a few times and then proceed to get a little artistic with their keys. I had to wait in the parking lot for the cops to show up, filed the police report, all that crap. I complained to the school, that got nowhere. I ended up having to pay for it out of my pocket, no sense in claiming insurance becuase it was just over my deductable anyhow. Cost me about 6 or 700 bucks if I can remember. Your right, the hood alone unpainted is near 500. Jealous bastards. Cops never found the guy in my town, figures though. :angryfire

"I FEEL YOUR PAIN"say like clinton!!!!LOL I know, not funny, trying to make you feel a little better. In all honesty, I've put so much attention, money, dedication, caring and did I mention money, into my Q I hate to even think about some jerk doing what he did to yours. I truly hope everything works out for you, and you can get the Q back to where it was before that jealous sub-human did a tap dance on the hood. I also park my Q in a small townhouse parking lot and your story has really got me thinking,,,,,,,,,,,I NEED A GARAGE!!!!!! I think you've also inspired me to reverse the advice given to me by Geico, and re-instate the comp. and collision on my Q!!!! Hope every works out for you!!!! Jeff

haha , thanks for all the words of encouragement guys, it helps to hear from people that care about their cars.

i talked to the guys who park next to me and also received the tap dance, and they didnt really care enough to even report it to the police. i guess you can just shrug off a fist size dent in a '03 saab, i dont know.

in any case, i took it to the *supposed* best shop in town.

said they wouldnt guarantee any attempts to repair the old one since its aluminum and its so soft, (metal was stretched, too)...but they quoted me just under a grand for a new one, painted.

it looks bad, and even though i am a freak about my car, i dont know if it is worth a grand for the hood.

(whole car could use a respray in a few years anyway)

i havent been able to locate any used hoods, anyone have any leads?

i just moved into this place about 3 weeks ago, and its not an option to move, i am in a binding lease for 12 months, just like every place on campus. no cameras in the place, just some sodium lights that flicker constantly.

maybe i will be forced to take the police officer's advice and "just get a junker for aroun d'ere" but in that case, i might as well sell the J, its not worth anything sitting and depreciating in storage. and 2 cars are not really affordable to a college student, especially if one of them is an infiniti.

i called geico, and they said,

rates will increase due to comprehensive claims, if one of the following is true:1) costs of repair are excessively high2) there is a pattern to the vandalism3) it occurs several times.

trouble is decoding what "excessive" and "several"mean in geico land...i wish they were required to publish these stats, or the formulas they use.

Very sorry to hear about your vandalism. I had my car stolen from my car port last year and was a total strip job. Look into a Viper or equivalent alarm with the shock sensor. It will back up the Infiniti system and provide additional security and thunderstorms will not set it off. Look into a back-up battery and redundant sirens. It sucks to have your car violated...I'm still pissed

sorry to hear about your loss scott,

an alarm with a shock sensor might not be such a bad idea, but im not sure how much it would have helped in this case.

no real burglaries or auto thefts around here, just a bunch of dumbasses drunk off of grain alcohol doing freestyle walking off the sides of cars.

Bastards... I have heard stories of a high voltage coil that could be hooked to a car's frame back in the 50s. Supposedly shocked the hell out of anyone who touched the car - probably BS but I'd love to do it if that could work. Added benefit... meter maids would think twice before putting a ticket on my car!

Best of luck getting it fixed. I'd ask Geico to nail down exactly what those terms (excessive, pattern) mean. They should tell you if you ask them to. If they won't threaten to call your state's insurance regulatory body.

Man, that sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cops will give you a ticket for minor traffic offences but can't (or won't) do absolutley anything as a rule for isolated vandalism cases.

I hope you can find a hood. Chicagoland has the most J30s of any city I've been to in the last 3 years. Start calling around to the salvage yards before you decide to sell.

i wish i could park in the garage (or even the driveway) but we have too many cars. all the vehicles i've had have been vandalized in some way (mustang, firebird, Q45, GS850G) while parked in front of my house. first two had the windows/t-tops shoe polished, one by seniors from my high school and the other by a rival high school (they searched neighborhoods looking for parking tags). the motorcycle and Q got egged, but not badly and it cleaned off with no permanent damage. the Q had a rear window shot out with a bb gun along with 10-20 other vehicles in the neighborhood. then the Q got egged again, this time it was too late and the clearcoat was damaged, and the next night a front fender was scratched at the top. if only i had a garage :(

Maybe a car cover and a good alarm could help? At least they'd have to come up to the car and make some noise to get to the paint...

i am currently looking into several options, alarm, beater car to drive around the streets ( and park ) here, and I found a place in FL that has a black hood and is willing to let it go for 400 shipped.

If i get something else to drive around, i have the added problem of multiple insurances, so i really need to find somewhere to store the J and not have to worry about it.

thanks for all the encouragement guys, and sorry to hear what all your Q has gone through sultan.

thats not a bad idea, but it would cost about the same as a beater to drive around...
