I orignally planned on doing HKS I/E cams, springs, and cam gears, but after that thread on FreashAlloy and talking to various other sources, Ive become wary of HKS' products. So I have a few questions; is Tomei worth the money? What about JWT's stuff? Ferra? Has anyone gone through anything similar? What were your results? My target is around 310-320hp, if that helps at all. Thanks.

very interesting, i always thought hks made very good products from things i had heard. plus their drift s15 from what i have heard is very reliable and uses parts right out of the catalog. now i dont know what to think, i also think people on here have very high respect for tomei, but they are VERY expensive on everything you buy, as you said. i dont know if tomei is worth the money, but at the same time i dont know what to think about hks valvetrain anymore.

Use the COMP springs. I got mine from Enjuku, paid about 150 for them. Very nice and from that same lineup of springs, they're nothing to scoff at either. The Ferrea's I think are over priced for the marginal preformance difference over the COMP. You can get the Crower titanium valve spring retainers (I did) with the Comp springs and still come out cheaper than the Ferrea by about 200 bucks.

Tomei always builds good stuff, but it depends on you if you're willing to pay the premium for them.

The cams from HKS are good. Even with the new grind they're using, they're still very streetable if you get the step 1's. That's what I got now and enjoyed before I had to pull my motor for a rebuild. I've heard reports of them gaining anywhere from 10-20hp so that should be pretty good gains just for cams.

The Tomei Procams you must get the new valve springs, while the Poncams you don't. But with the lift you get with the Poncams, get the springs anyway. I've tried out the Tomei's and they're very good, just pricey. Up to you if you want to spend that premium for Tomei.

I got my set of HKS cams for under $400. Tomei's are usually like what $500+? That extra hundred bucks is a pretty big margin and personally didn't think it was worth it. But it might be to you. Poke around some more and call around some shops like Phase2 or Enjuku as they've probably got more opinions on the matter.

mike kojima says that the jwt cams have the best valvetrain harmonics(whatever that means).
