I am rebuilding a spare KA24DE that will some day be turbocharged. I am disassembling the engine, but I'm having it rebuilt professionally. I have decided to start with the head (since I have to take it off anyway).

I am having the head ported and I'm getting a "valve job". The engine has about 130k miles on it.

Could some one tell me what valvetrain components I should plan on replacing ? I don't mean the timing chain assembly, I don't think I have to worry about that until the head and block are complete.

Should I plan on ... new...

Valves ? (I'm thinking yes)Valve Springs ?Lifters ? (I'm thinking yes)Retainers ?Shims ?

I'm thinking I shouldn't need camshafts or cam gears but feel free to correct me.

Lastly, should I be thinking OEM or aftermarket ?

Thanks.

i would just do them all if you have the money, it would be better to have a new valve train then just some new parts

Don't forget the exhaust valve guides. They are usually the first to go.

Thanks ! That's what I was looking for, I'm not even sure what every component is in the head yet. I'm familiar with the basic operation but I don't know every part.

Get a good 3 way valve job done while your having the head ported. Make sure you get the intake and exhaust mani(turbo mani) gasket matched so the air flow will be smooth and unobstructed. Also, grab a set of S13 Exhaust cams, they have longer duration. I believe 248 was the number. You'll need a new cam pulley on the intake side, but you can buy one from JWT.

I recommend Extrude Hone for any port/polishing work.

Ok... Here's my list so far, what am I missing ?

ValvesValve SpringsValve GuidesLiftersValve retainersShims

(and camshaft and cam gears which I will probably reuse)

And should I be thinking OEM or aftermarket ? Ferrea is like twice as expenisve as Nissan as far as I can tell. Are they worth it ?
