I have a 1990 240sx with the ka24e. I was driving the other day and my engine started makeing this really loud ticking sound, way louder than normal. I added a quart of oil cause that usualy quiets things back down but it didnt help at all. Today i pulled the valve cover and found that the very last (intake side right next to the windshield) rocker retainer and almost come off, the bold had backed out almost a half inch and the rocker had slid back about a quarter inch. I reseated it and tightend the bolt back down and check all the others. All the bolts are tight but 3 of the rockers (the last one is the worst) now have some play to them. I can move them with my fingers just barely. So my question is, can i just replace those 3 rockers and be fine or do i need other things too? thanks for all your help.

yes you can replace just the three rockers. The noise you are hearing is probably a collapsed lifter in the tip of the rocker. I had the same problem and replaced the three rockers on #1 cylinder. heres the catch, they cost around $20 each. The local Nissan Tech suggested that I replace all of them at once because they might all start going bad. --My opinion, replace them as you need to it doesn't take long to do, just be sure to keep every thing in the exact order it was.

yes, u shouldnt take off something from intake side 1 cylinder and use it on cylinder 3, label everything with ziplocs and a sharpie, worked well for me
