Taking out 12 valves for the first time: 13 hours of workYour palms feeling as if they were on fire, like after a 13 hour two-handed masturbatlon session: PainfulLook of head ready to be cleaned: Priceless. There are some things masturbatlon prepares you for. For everything else there are performance shops.

p.s.: I'd like to wrap my hands around an icicle right now...Why the #$@%&! do our cars have TWO springs per valve?!

hehe, you have had the same fun I just had :) Are you gonna replace all the valves???? Iam trying to decide if I should replace all the valves or only the bent ones(4) cause them exhaust valves are alittle on the expensive side. After the 1st valve my valve spring compressor broke and that was hell to use a broke compressor on 11 valves.

mine just kinda kept chipping away at itself with some sparks coming out... well, I don't think I have a bent valve, although one of the intake ones was kinda hard to get out, i had to tap it out, i think it was because when i got one of the valve locks out, i uncompressed the spring back with one of them still on, and it scratched the valve stem, makign it hard to remove...but now i dont remember which valve, it was...I'll look at them later and figure it out, cuz i think the stem was scratche up too... You know whats odd? the rocker arms above the 4th cylinder were really hard to get off the rocker arm shafts, i even had to tap one off with a hammer. and it left some minor scratches on the shaft..I don't know if thats a bad thing, or if I can reuse them again...Where are you getting ur new valves? How much are they? Does the place sell valve springs/rocker arms/etc as well?

I was gonna replace all my valves, decided not too once i looked at the price. 10 bux for 1 intake valve, 17 bux for the 1 exhaust valve!!!! So Iam just going to replace my bent valves and all the seals, I was told it will be okay to keep the springs and rocker arms($$$$) and etc. So Iam going to keep those. I will replace the rocker arms once I get a new cam, until then, they will stay!! Its a fun first time project. I dont have any mechanical experience and my first journey into my car is rebuilding the motor :-/ woe is me(lol)

Those prices were from partsamerica.com the same place that advance auto uses to get its parts, Autozone is more expensive :-/

If you put a cam in what is the possiblity of beding your valves and do you need to replace rocker arms im gonna get cams pretty soon. Or I was gonna get pulleys. Which makes more power and is more reliable.

Pulleys? U mean lightened pulleys, like crank/AC/power steering pulleys? That's not anywhere the effect of a good performance cam. Pulleys make ur engine rev with less effort, and decrease (to some amount) the leeching of HP effect. A cam will actually GIVE you HP. Or make you able to produce more HP by altering your intake/exhaust lift timing.Pulleys = approx. 1-3 hp increase at best. Cams can give up to 20+ HP.

If you get different cams, like the PDM website says, u may need to mill the cam towers. I think that's about all that needs to be done, no different rocker arms needed. Unless u just wanna get a set of fresh OEM ones.

Pulleys = 12whp on a KA... and I have the dyno to prove it.

Cams will net the similar results as well.

12 WHP?!?!?! How is that possible? I've completely disconnected the power steering and AC pulleys and felt NO difference! The engine revved alittle faster, but that's it.

nismofreak, do you have a KA24E/KA24ET/KA24DE/KA24DET?

http://www.importtuner.com ... go to tech and find the S14. They gained 12whp peak at 6280hp. The entire powerband was jumped up 4-5whp / 3-4 ft.lbs.

I don't trust import tuner... Never have...How is it possible that the KA picks up 12 WHP with pulleys alone is beyond me. Maybe they measured the initial HP with their AC full blast, while turning the wheels side to side and a 12 inch sub making their lights dim, so the alternator works overtime. 12 WHP increase is ridiculous from pulleys alone. Compared to all other information about pulley related HP increases, their results are complete bogus. Unless our KAs are so unique that the stock pulleys eat up tremendous amounts of power. 12whp is 15 crank HP. 15 crank HP gain from pulleys sounds made up. A bunch of posts on this board have noted that the pulley upgrade was not one of the "best bang for the buck" upgrades, which strongly contradicts the Import Tuner results. I am speechless. As I said above, getting rid of the connection between the AC and power steering pulleys, did not result in a noticeable improvement in acceleration/speed. The only thing that changed was that my revs would go up and down quicker in idle revving. If someone else on this board has dynoed their car with and without pulleys, please post your results and opinions. I woudl be very glad to be proven wrong by an actual 240 owner who has done the mod, and not by some rice boy magazine.
