So when u say that the valves won't come out and play u mean they stay down..and when u put everything back together..did u do a free turn before u turn it on..if not u could have bent the valves...and by the looks on the 2nd pic with the pully it looks like it on the 3rd notch and it should be the 2... http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id ... .g-offgood read..

once you rotate the motor the marks on the chains and the cams arnt going to line up anymore. thats just a refrence point to start from. it looks like everyting is lined up now if your at tdc on the #1 cylinder your cams should point out to the left and right. but none of this really matters because your valves arnt coming up so whatever damage that could have been done is obviously done now. remove the head. its the only way to find out if your valves are bent. dont rotate the motor. if your valves are bent thay have contacted the pistons and will either put a hole in the piston head or shove the bent valve into the valve guide and then you will really be in trouble. as far as other options for the valves not coming up. broken valve springs. valve buckets locked in head from either extreme warping or debris between bucket and head, valve locked in valve guide from debris. all of these are very bad and would require removing the head to have fixed. sorry.

+1 if the valves aren't coming up they are bent, no question about it. At least they are relatively cheap for new ones.
