I have a 2007 V6 Altima. Nicest car I've ever driven...but it has a problem. I'm very good with my maintenance. At 53xx miles it's seen 4 oil changes. I want to make sure this one will last.

The core of the problem is what I think (sounds like) valve tick. At 2700-3000 RPMs I get a rattling type of sound. I used to have a Protege with serious valve/lifter problems. The tick is a sound I know and really hate. No sound below or above the RPM range listed, very smooth and sound free.

Next week I make an appointment with a dealership (pray for me on this one). I've been through 2 so far that were worthless so I'm onto #3.

I'm wondering if anyone has heard/had this problem? I just need a little help or any ideas into how to go about getting this fixed.

Thanks for your time

I hear it too on my 08. Unless you drive the car every day, it's hard to pick up. I find it worse under moderate load and after driving on the highway for an hour.

I hope you find out what it is.

Don't worry, this chatter sound happenes on mine as well everyday. Its not valve chatter, its got to do with the design of the timing chain and tensioners.

Seriously.. WTF. I thought this problem was eliminated with the 4th gen. This is an issue with the guide tensioners. If they wear enough due to the chain it can snap the chain. It is an expensive repair 1500+ and nissan knows this. They pushed back on my 3rd gen altima under warranty.
