Im having head work done and I don't know much about working on the sr20det head or any head for that matter. My father dropped off my head at a recommended shop and the guy there said that he had worked on this type of head before which he hadn't b/c later that day I was told he said that the hydraulic lash adjusters were self adjusting and that I could use the same shims. I was under the impression that new shims are needed and have to be precisely measured to a hundredth of an inch or so, is that true?

Are new guides needed to make these measurements?

Do the guides come in different sizes?

Where can I get some shims/guides?

Is any of this easy to do and could any machine shop do it?

Thanks in advance!

SR heads have hydraulic lash adjusters. The shims in SR heads are used to keep the tip heights level so the rockers are not tilted. If you want new shims, got through Nissan.

Thanks for the help but I got it all figured out. Enjuku has the tool to measure for new shims.
