I am in the process of taking apart my 1990's SOHC head. I only have the valve seals left (on the head along with the valve guides, I intend to leave the guides on), but they seem to be the tricky part. I tried to simply pull one of the seals out, but remains of it were left inside the valve guide. I don't know how to remove them, and the FSM does not give any clues, except for the "now remove the valve seals" step, which is not really helpful. Any advice would be very appreciated. Thanks guys.

Use pliers or a vice grip and just pull them out, it's a little hard to pull em off, but nothing too big.

i tried that... it got ripped and the rest of it is still in the guide...any lubricant i should use, like wd-40 or somethign lithium based? they seem to be stuck there so bad that they seem to be part of the guides...

i was just twisting it and contorting it all over the place till it came off. didn't use any penetrating oil..i doubt the oil would real the part that the seal is clamped onto.
