Valve removal

I see the thread by ashspec on rebuilding the lifters and testing them, but anyone have one on removing the valves themselves? It will be my first time, so excuse my ignorance, but while the motor is torn down and I'm waiting to finish the kitchen remodel, I figured I could give it a try. Worst case, I'll take it to the machine shop when I get the block/crank/heads done.
