Hi new guy here with truck issues. 1993 hb 2.4. Recently bought this truck, it has been sitting since 2006 with a bad trans. Replaced trans and it runs great, but sometimes when it is parked over night or several hours, when I try to start it spins over like it has no compression. Also has a ticking sound as it spins. But after it spins for a while it starts. Sounds to me like the lifters are losing their prime or they are getting stuck. I have serviced the engine and added stp. Anyone heard of anything like this before?

The hydraulic lifters can become clogged with sludge and cause quite a rattle upon start up. They can also loose their prime and fill with air causing quite a rattle until all the air is purged. Have you pulled the valve cover off the head to check the internals visually yet?

No I have not. They do not rattle. It seems as though after the truck sits for a while they are either holding the valves open or not opening them until they prime back up. The truck spins over with no compression.

It sounds like the timing chain has broke when I start to try and start it. Anyone have any clue?
