What's up Nico,so just now I had to remove the new timing belt I put on YESTERDAY,because today when I was tightening down the intake cam bolts, the right intake cam skipped a tooth or so. I did the removal AGAIN to get everything back to where it should be.Now,as I was going to put the belt back on,I was having some trouble and throughout the attempts, the left intake cam rotated on it's own counterclockwise at least a quarter of the way(cam mark at top as it should be).I did hear the dings of the valve-piston contact,I'm worried if it did any serious damage???Help please!I'm going insane :frown:

Have you started the car? If not, then good!

Mine slipped while i was tightening down a cam bolt, and that was due to the tensioner acting up. But, I took the belt off, lined my marks back up( all 4 cams and the crank) Then put the belt back on. I had to mess around with the tensioner to get it working right. As long as you marks are lined back up, you should be fine. Just turn the motor over a few times by hand before you start it, to make sure there's no contact

I have yet to start it up.It's still sitting in pieces, but even with those couple contacts that they made from slipping, there shouldn't be any damage?Yours ran fine afterwards as well I'm guessing?

Well, are you spinning the motor over with the starter or with a ratchet on the crankshaft pulley bolt? You should always turn the motor over slowly by hand, so if you do have contact, it'll be slow speed and you'll be able to feel it

If you're that worried, do a leakdown test.

So I adjusted the belt AGAIN,and this time the left side intake cam slips without me noticing until I was already about to put the top engine cover on.And yes, only hand cranked.I know the car would run a little rougher, what do you guys think smog results would be like if I pushed my luck to smog?

It shouldn't have damaged the valves. It doesn't have much force behind it so it shouldn't have bent them or anything. Like has been said a leakdown will tell if there's any damage for sure. Mine did that a few times when I put my timing belt back on. Mine ran just fine and passed emissions with flying colors. Passed the leakdown as well.

I should've asked in a more clear way.I meant if I tried to smog with the LH intake cam off one tooth, would I have any luck smogging?

I wouldn't even attempt that. Just take the extra time to get everything right. I ended up with 7.5 hours in my timing service, it went smooth as could be for the first hour and a half then the belt slipped a tooth, and it went to hell from there. The car would never run right a tooth off. While you still have it apart, fix it so you don't have to do more work replacing an engine
