1989 240SX:

For some time I've suspected that my car needs valve guide seals - Burning oil when cold.

Now, when it's cold, something is clattering like crazy. It sounds like a stuck valve. This goes away when it warms up but I noticed, when I removed the oil filler cap, that copeous amounts of air pulsate from my valve cover.

Could this clatter be a sticky lifter? Is it normal to have air pulsating from the valve cover?

My car seems to run great with this one exception.

You have a couple of possabilities.1) you have a leaking valve guide/seal2) you have a PVC Valve clogged.

For #1 you need to pull each spark plug to see which one looks fouled...it will be oily or black. This will tellyou which valve guide/seal is leaking. If you're going to replacve one...replace them all.

For #2 which is where the pulsating air comes from....just replace the PVC Valve.

Thanks for the help. But I think it might be better to replace the PCV valve than the PVC valve. LOL.

Thank's & Merry Xmass.
