ok i have a problem i have a 91 240 with the ka we are doing a head gasket on the car and when i was scraping the old gasked off the head the valve lifters and guides fell out now i am wondering if they have a certine place to be in like if theres is a differance between the intake and exhaust and if there is a problem with ware as far if they dont not mach the original positions thanks for any responses

You mean the bucket guides? Yes, they should be put back in the same place. Install them how you think they go back in and measure the clearance, the fsm should tell you the tolerances.

The shims on the buckets are different sizes. You are going to need to measure each one and check the clearances when your done.

damn i take it the guides dont have a distinctiv numbers on them

First off the buckets aren't guides. They just hold the shims that are in them in place. The buckets are all the same size. It's the shims that are different thicknesses. I would not worry about it if I were you. Guides are the pieces pressed into the head that the valve slides up and down in. If they fell out then you have more problems than I thought.
