I had posted a month or so ago about my clattering Q45 I finaly got the engine apart. The passenger side chain is loose so I need to replace the guides it would seem. I have seen references to Scottsdale for a parts kit but I can not find them on the web. Does any one have a Phone number or email address to a good parts supplier? I would rather buy everything I need at once so I can get it back together.ThanksReid:ylsuper

Also, piece together what you take out, and be prepared to remove sump and locatee missings pieces, no matter how small. Oil pump chain is good to have on hand, also.

Assume it is the timing chain guides and not the valve guides to which you refer in the thread subject line.

What do you mean by "chain is loose?" You mean it's loose because there's no guide there now, or it's loose because it has slack in it? How much slack a timing chain has when the cover is off has no relationship to how much slack it has when the engine is running. If slack is the concern, make sure you replace the chain tensioners, guides and the oil pump chain/guides.

Yes I meant chain guides lol I am also building a pontiac mtr for my firebird and I sometimes get my wires crossed. The chain is loose a good half a inch play but everything looks good. I can generally fix anything but sometimes forget a step and have to start all over again...groan. If it doesnt work this time I may have to slip the 747ci pontiac in there anyone for a road trip? :)

Yes, secure those chains or suffer the consequences! Do a search by User Name for AZSKYGOD, and read the "Oil Leak" thread before you go any further! Otherwise, you may end up doing it TWICE...

Azskygod man did you have fun, that was like reading a mystry novel I am glad it all came out right in the end. The car I am working on is a low milage Q and really deserves to be back on the road. I will post pictures when I get done.
