Just wondering if anyone knew the bolt pattern for a sohc 240 that and how much torque do i use on the bolts. Im changing my valve cover seal this weekend and was wondering the correct way to bolt down the valve cover. oh i also wanted to paint my valve cover while its off is there any special way of cleaning it or do i just clean off all the old paint and paint away.

most thing thag get torqued done do in a criss-cross or star pattern. start in the center and work your way out doing one bolt on each side at a time. for say torqueing a wheel torque the nut across fromt he one you just did.

torque spec on valve cover is about 7lbs i use 10lbs and its jsut fine

use some steel wool or if you have access a sand blaster will rip off any crap left on the cover.

You dont need to follow that, just start in the middle and work your way out to the ends for just about anything you bolt on.

Nyone know how long it takes to replace a valve cover gasket on a 95 S14? I need to do that cuz mine is leaking. Also do I need to use sealant or no, I just want to make sure I have all the parts before I even start. Also whats the torque specs on the 95 valve cover bolts?

cool write up, thanks for the info. So feasibly one could replace the timing chain themselves...good to know. Where can I go to download the FSM?

BTW I'd so do that if I had a way to get under my car.

http://www.zeroyon.com/TheSite/techservice.htmllink to FSMs

You can also roll your car in 4th gear until you have the notch right on. This would be easier with two people.

Replacing the upper chain might not be that hard but you have to be really careful with how chain aligns with the cam gear.. Alot of people get this wrong (off one tooth) and run into bunch of problems. Lower chain is ALOT more involved.
