One must use a good torque wrench, observe FSM notes, and I highly recommend using new rubber lined retainers to achieve the correct torque.

Surely you can drill out, then extract and replace the stud?

That ceratinly tries one's patience! Must have been seriously corroded. Any stub left?

Just FYI, a mix between acetone and ATF (50/50) works way better than any penetrating oil. Theres a thread in general chat...

looks like you're going to be all about an easy out and retapping the threads... However in all practicality (flame suit on), one missing stud/nut is probably not going to make much difference, in my experience... Im not suggesting you neglect fixing it, im just saying in the grand scheme of things.........

I would try an easy out or try chiseling it out before drilling it, you only get one chance before you screw the heads up... take a real fine chisel, or even a nail, and hammer into the head and try and turn it that way, surprisingly it works very well... This summer our lawn mower busted a blade (hit a water service valve), and i got the broken bolt out that way.

just out of curiosity, which stud is it? Is it easy to get to, or is it one of those fun ones wayyyy in the back.

My guess its probably one up front and on top.
