what is under the lettering on the valve cover is it more aluminum or is it very thin aluminum that will be damaged when ground...im polishing my valve cover and want to know if im gonna damage it by smothing the side with the raised lettering.

why are you smoothing it out? That looks good on there in my opinion

just look at the underside of it...if it's flush then you'll be fine.if it's dented up under the letters then don't try it. i know someone who griound down the letters on his SE-R valve cover if that helps..no problems on that one.

cant see the underside but yes i am smoothing it out.....yes it does look good there sometimes but not polishied personally...because you cant get into all the nooks to prep it right for pollishing

also have you ever seen one completely shaven.....i havent but i think it would look good.

theres a baffle or some sort of plate over the top of the VC. i dont know what under it, but i image that the letter are part of the cast, not raised up or punched
