I am getting ready to paint my valve cover on my KA and i wanted to get some info before i started this project. I have searched over 3 boards and i have not got any direct answers so i decided to start a new thread.

-Will i need to replace the valve cover gasket after removal(even if it is still in good shape now)? - If i have to remove it, will i need to use RTV (sp?) to seal it?-Will a clear engine enamel work as an ok clear coat?-What is the exact tourque of the bolts on the valve cover?

Thanks a lot.

1.> No Its a rubber gasket, and reusable. Basically only needs replacing if cut, or has turned into plastic.

2.> Yes, but only on the half circle rubber peices, and only where it contacts the head. It should have rtv on it that you will have to scrape off, so youll know where to reaply it.

3.> I would imagine if it is high heat engine enamel then sure (95%).

4. > Dont feel like lookin in my fsm but I never torque em and never had a leak. Just tighten them with the ratchet by hand till they are fairly snug. Dont go ape on em' or they may strip.
