I just removed my valve cover to inspect my timing chain. When removing it I noticed that two of the bolts were loose or stripped. Well I put the cover back on with a little sealant. Well now when I start the car it smokes a lot from the tailpipe and theres more when you rev it too. help me out

also there is still a tick with the timing chain. i inspected it so maybe its on the bottom.

please asap

What you are seeing is oil leaking down. Remove the valve cover again and check to make sure all your gaskets are on.

You didn't mess with the valve stem seals? Smoke from the exhaust is often either bad rings or bad valve seals.

well i pulled the cover back off and what do you know, theres a good two inch chunk of the gasket broken off. I must have pinched the gasket a little and it got hit by the cam or something. luckily the piece was right there and didnt go anywhere where it might have caused a nightmare. anyways autozone opens at eight and ill go get a new gasket and hopefully there will be no more smoke...
