Hey,I know this is a real stupid question and yes, I did do a search for this, but can somebody tell what is suppose to be connected to the T and nipple on a S13 SR Valve Cover?? What I mean by nipple is on the top left corner of the cover, there is a "nipple" so to say that sticks out. I know that the front side of the T is suppose to go to the carbon canister (which is no longer in use), but where does the back side connect to and also where does the nipple connect to? I was think that the nipple connects to somewhere on the intake mani. Thanks in advance!!!

Take a picture of these areas and circle them in Paint so we know exactly what you're talking about.

the rear portion of the T connector goes to the canister, the front connector is the crankcase breather hose. either attach a small filter to it, or run it to your intake.

sorry for the crappiness of this shot. I don't have a better angle and the car's buried in snow right now

the nipple as you call it is where the knock sensor is located if i remember correctly. it should connect to an air hose situated behind the fuel rail.

knock sensor location

Thanks for the info!!! So if I were to take the canister out, there would be no point in connecting that to anything correct? So I could just put a new attachment and put a small breather correct?? Thanks again for all the help and if I am correct in what to do, there is no need to respond to this post. Thanks!!!!!!

i guess you could. as long as you put a filter over it so crap doesn't get sucked into the crankcase...why do you want to remove it?

You dont want to remove it unless you have an actual reason, non cosmetic.

i dunno. it's not in my S14 manual. Only the crank breather tube comes off of the cover in that one.

we're talking about the black box on the rear corner, not the breather tube on the front. Btw, haven't seen a distributer SR yet. That's not a stock DET swapped out to a disrtibuter, is it?

that black box labled "canister" in Tenkawa's picture is an oil catch tank. It has a second tube comming out the bottom that allows oil vapor to get back into the crank case.

I just catches oil. If you get rid of it, I would suggest placing a tube between the T and the hole left near the back of the block. Since a breather could result in oil spraying all over.

The knock sensor is on the block below the intake manifold.

And, you don't want to remove it because it acts as an oil separator...keeping oil from coming out of your breather. Alot of people eventually saturate their little filter when they take off the stock catch can and oil starts going everywhere. So, like Speed Racer said, keep it if you can.

Ok, so what happens if I don't have my canister??? Speedracer said something about plumbing a tube from a hole near the back of the block to the T? Anyone have a pic of this hole or where the canister is suppose to connect to? I kinda have an idea of where it goes, but just need to verify the location. Here is my description and tell me if I am wrong...... On the block, driver's side, towards the back corner of the block, there is tube that points straight up into the air. Would this be the hole that Speedracer is talking about??

Yes. If you can't use the stock catch can, run a tube from the back of the T to the metal tube that points straight up out of the block.

I have a concern/question....the "nipple" on the back passenger side of the valve cover is described in the S14 FSM as the blow by control valve.

I have heard people block it off completely or run it to the vacuum line coming off the intake manifold immediately before the head (as shown above).

Any solid input on which is best? What about running a filter off of it? And, if that's not the PCV valve, where is the damn thing?

same here, but what did you do about the blow by control valve on the other side of the valve cover? Did you leave it hooked up to the vacuum 'T' off the intake manifold?

Maybe we should make a quiz for the S13 so everyone has to identify the parts before they install it...:pface

Hmm...good idea! I think I'd fail question 1. What's the plug on the back left portion of the valve cover :)

Honostly I would consider the S13 SR manual near useless with the wealth of information on the internet.

You can with a laptop. That's how I do it.

You could also install a small desktop (Micro ATX, etc.) computer in your car with a wireless LAN card and be on the internet as long as you're parked in your garage or near enough to an unsecured WLAN.

:D
