never worked with rtv before and i was just trying to read up on it a little. couldn't tell if it was a cleaner or some type of silicone. more research tomorrow i guess..TheOne wrote:valve cover......hmmmm......shouldn't require any special mechanical skills.
just take out the spark plugs, the bolts that hold the valve cover(believe 11 of'em?), take it out, remove old gasket, remove spark plug gasket(on the inside of the valve cover, by the spark plug holes), replace gaskets, add some rtv to the half moons and put back in like you took it out.
yes mine came w/ one...i got a felpro, was very easy to do...0wn3r wrote:

that's what i figured was all it took. seems like some get an engine degreaser and clean the entire inside/outside of the valve cover. now, if i tighten them beyond 7lbs i heard i can ruin helicoils right?
will the spark plug gasket come with the valve cover gasket when i go to buy? from what i've read, some may have a brand preference... yes/no?
with as many posts that you have I would have figured you would have done that or something similare before.0wn3r wrote:

well i helped out with one on my old accord and it looked easy, but that was awhile back and i wasn't exactly writing down all the details.nzmoman wrote:with as many posts that you have I would have figured you would have done that or something similare before.
there are no write ups because its so easy a caveman could do it0wn3r wrote:

but nah, my mechanical skills = n00b to intermediate status. but for something so 'easy' i'm surprised no one has done some type of write-up.
Im offendedLayNLow240 wrote:there are no write ups because its so easy a caveman could do it
just jump on in. once you get started youll be fine. make sure you dont overtighten the valve cover bolts. and remember where everything goes when you put it back on. Following those steps you will be fine0wn3r wrote:

Well just know one thing, dont cheap out by putting too little rtv. You'll end up doubling your costs.nzmoman wrote:if not you can get a small tube for around 2 bucks more.
i forgot about that, yes, be very careful when boltin it back up, put the middle 1's first, then the 1's on the corner, do not start on the corners as if you put too much pressure on it, the valve cover will crack(have done so on 2 valve covers:P)R6_240sx wrote:Also bolt them back on in the proper order. The order is in the FSM.
i have the electronic version and i could not find anything about valve covers or valve cover gaskets to save my life.mrzabala wrote:When tightening, following the fsm bolt pattern comes in handy, everything else is straight foward.
wtf was it doing in the Timing Chain section? bsR6_240sx wrote:[img]Ugh f*ck it look in the Engine Mechanical section.
