I'm new here and just bought a 1994 infiniti q45, and I noticed leaking from the valve cover. So thinking that I could just pull the cover and replace the gasket thats just what I did. And yes I finally got it off tonight, and I don't see a gasket.. Is this normal or am I missing something? Any thoughts you might have would be a real help.

I believe that it is an Q45A if that is any help.
Thanks

I believe the 94's used a gasket. If not, use Ultra Gray RTV. Make sure the mating surfaces are damn near sterile, and apply a 1/4" bead along the valve cover, then assemble while tacky and torque to spec.

+1 for Ultra Grey.. Are the covers being held on with a bolt or an acorn style nut?

Later VH45DE use both gaskets and RTV. Nissan orange works well also. The acorn nuts use special rubber lined washers that are by now permanently deformed and hardened, so to get the correct torque values in the 3 stage tightening process they need to be replaced. Do read the FSM. Active takes a little extra work.
