Whats up, I'm changing my valve cover gasket (because I'm painting the cover), but I need to know what that rubber gunk is on top of the gasket itself. And is it necessary to have that when I replace it/where can I find some if it is necessary. Thanks.

Its probably just the liquid gasket you can buy at any automotive store.

i did mine easy. I polished my valve cover. I bough the gasket at autozone for 10 bucks and then used a little liquid gasket at speciifed points for safety. It dont take long. Dont over tigbhten the bolts though!
