okay, I'm about to replace the valve cover gaskets for my 300ZX. I already have the gasket kit in the liquid gasket stuff. I was wondering since the service manual suggests a torque of 12 to 18 pounds what I used to set that. I was told that it would be a bad idea to use a large torque wrench. Is there like a torque screwdriver out there that I could pick up at Sears or something or could I just get away with freehanding it.

just googled torque screwdriver what would still like to know if it can be freehanded.

You could get a smaller inch pound torque wrench.

Just be sensible and do it by hand, if you feel the need and have extra cash buy a smaller inch pound torque screwdriver. I free hand mine and DD the car, no troubles.

It's always a better idea to use a torque wrench. Some people have good feel for torque while others don't...usually its something that comes with experience. I've never seen a torque screwdriver, but I have a 3/8" torque wrench that has a range from 10 ft/lb to 90 ft/lb I think. It's a good tool to have.
