OK I usually do most easy repairs, but this is slightly out of my league.

For convenience, I rather let Nissan do this.

I just paid around $510 to the dealership.

With my 10% discount.

I'm the type of getting it done right and not the cheapest route type.

So I don't mind paying more.

Please tell me that's the going rate to make me feel better. Lol.

And not ripped off. :bang

Or tell me doing all the easier repairs through the years balances it out.

Or your getting nissan certified technicians and not a local corner car repair shop. Or some drunk driver didn't kill me last week. Anything!

Tomorrow, or today by the time you read this, I will get the big coolant hose replaced even though it's not leaking. The big one in the front.

But I did cover with gorilla tape because it was cracking.

My suggestion to change or else they would never know.

Wanna be proactive.

Now they want to do a drain and flush my radiator.

Even though I changed it a few years ago.

I don't mind the over $150 price, but is it needed? Can't they drain a bit? Then add?

And replace hose.

But I do have the red coolant not the nissan version.

I'm too lazy to do this hose replacement too.

Just don't make me feel like crap for the price I paid. :inoutgay:

Dealers always charge more than your local mechanic. The mechanics that work there are just as certified as the mechanics that work at the local ma and pa shop. The only slight difference is that the mechanics at the Nissan dealer might have received some specific training on some small nuances of Nissan cars. Worth the extra money? Probably not.

Local Nissan Dealer here charges $75/hour. Local mechanic charges $55 /hour.

Look at how big and beautiful those dealerships are. They need extra $$$ to stay that way.

If you have a new car then take it to dealer for warranty work. If it's out of warranty then bring it to local mechanic and save yourself money. Nothing magical about Nissan Mechanics.

Car repair shops in general is a total crap shoot, dealerships included.

I wish I knew a mechanic I can trust personally.

Anyways, a local car body shop is not really the same as a car service repair shop.

But after I went to a local body shop to fix a dent and repaint rear side of car.
You can see where the new paint bordered the old paint!

I spent over a thousand dollars for that crap repair.

It bothered me so much I went back to my dealership and spent ANOTHER over $1000 to get it repainted!

Well that left a bad taste that I prefer my dealer.

If I knew a mechanic I can trust, I would go to them instead of a dealer.

Heck, if I'm going to get rip off, it don't matter who I pay.

But at least nissan most of the time knows their vehicles.

If I had a car the Eric guy type of dude in my area, I use them in a heartbeat.

So with discount, I paid $230 for a hose replacement and flush.

At least I got the blue coolant.

I always got a consistent 192 degrees with the blue coolant when I first bought my rogue.

But I had a pretty good set up on my last radiator drain and fills.

I used zerex asian version , than the prestone zerex version.

With hyper cool additive then water wetter on the last drain.

Whenever I turned on the air con, I always had a consistent 178 degrees coolant temperature as of late.

My average was 10 - 14 degrees below what I usually got from the oem blue coolant when first bought the vehicle.

Anyways, 192 degrees as a average is fine too.

When a vehicle is at optimum operating temperature, 190 in the Rogues case the fuel mileage tends to be better. I would be interested to know if you experience any noticeable increase. Especially if you were at a consistent 178.

People who specialize in one particular kind of vehicle or one brand do tend to become familiar with many of the peculiarities of those vehicles.

Well I probably threw mpg's out the window really bad ever since I replaced my oem continental for high performance nitto tires.

After that I was getting like 16 mpg on top of my very NOW non aerodynamic vehicle. Mostly city driving.

Back nearly a decade when I got the rogue, gas was going through the $4-5 per gallon craziness.

But the rogue was getting 20-21 city and 34 mpg highway.

I probably just had bullbars, side bars, and maybe a rear tube if not later.

On one long trip I tried to see how high I could get the mpg's on the trip computer. And I remember it was around 42mpg.

Drove 50-55, 60 mph at most. Mix of rural & highway, long stretches of farmland, country side homes, etc.

Sucks they got rid of that post on longest mpgs. So I can't verify again but I kinda remember I broke the 40 mark and was really happy.

But I don't care much for mpg since I am more into the look.
Of course with the roof light bar and cargo basket, my so called apocalypse rogue won't get high mileage.

Probably getting conti instead of high performance tires would increase mpg.

But I'm at a crossroads and actually thinking of getting all terrain or LT tires to complete my offroad look.

So I might even go below 16mpg.

But I wait to see, present tires still good.

If I removed all the exterior accessories, and get high mileage tires, it would certainly see my earlier mileage.

I'm light on the gas pedal, not really heavy footed.

And to think I skipped the fuel injection cleaning for $150.

Yah, I probably could have replaced the part and installed myself.

But was lazy and wanted a pro flush.

They also wanted a maintenance tune up for hundreds more, but I told them I replace the spark plugs already.

Yah I sucked it up and got it up the a $$ by going to dealership.

I'm keeping til it falls apart.

Run great tho.

Got this done during inspection.

Also had a P0171 code 2 days before.

So I cleaned the oxygen sensor and replaced air filter.

Reset so engine light went off.

Never came back for them to see.

Kinda hope it would so they can check it out.

So I told them about it and to look for vacuum leaks, it all good I guess.

But I have to stop by later to get my coolant cap, it's missing.

And advance auto says it's a special order so can't buy one. Unless I goose chase all over the city.
