Would anyone like to explain to me why Nissan used a gasket for the intake valve cover but chose to use sealant for the exhaust side? I have worked on a wide variety of engines in my 51 years and have never seen sealant used for a valve cover gasket.

The sealant is astronomically better than any gasket. I'm fighting continuous leaks on my X5 right now and the next step is to fully replace the stupid rubber gaskets with Ultragrey.

See, I've never had issues with quality rubber o-ring style gaskets.

The bimmer has its own set of unique bimmer issues with the gaskets.

In general the sealants are better because they are able to fill whatever corrosion, pitting, scratches, imperfections, etc. and create a more complete seal so no weeping is allowed.

Maybe, but no damn fun to install. One thing I like about modern engines is that they use so many orings and less gaskets or sealants
