So I took my 06 M35 into the dealership and got a 4 wheel alignment. They told me i have a slight oil leak and its coming from the valve cover gasket. Kicker... $1100 to do the job i almost told the guy to kick rocks i knew it was going to be absurd. My question how much should a valve cove job cost?

BlackCat81 on here might be able to tell you exactly as he's actually an Infiniti technician. My guess is it's probably a good 4-5 hours of labor...at least.

which side are you replacing? i did the left (driver) side and the job isn't half bad. the part is a little pricey - the gasket itself is 13 bucks. you will need to get some RTV sealant and most likely a whole new intake upper, lower collector gaskets. if you haven't done any of those then the job will be around 3 hours.

They didn't specify, I didn't know there were two sides. I was reading that its best to replace the covers completely. I can get both for $450 total gaskets included.

Get new intake gaskets, new valve cover gaskets, and a tube of black sealant RTV. Take your time and do it right. It will take 4-5 hours with beer breaks. Not hard, just alot of steps.

if you're going to do it yourself, remember the following:

1- those little 10mm upper and lower intake manifold nuts/bolts are very brittle, they require very little torque; just hand tight
2- make sure you label the coil connectors - the driver side is cyc 2, 4, 6 while passenger is 1,3,5
3- remove and discard all annoying support brackets as they will only getting in the way
4- clean all the residual gunks and gasket before apply the new one with a plastic razor
5- take your time with the intake gasket manifold as they are one time use (per instruction)
