Has anybody every stripped a pair of VH valve covers down to bare metal? What ever coating that is on it is giving me a hell of a time. I've tried media blasting and B17 stripper with no luck.

give me some direction here.

I would like to hear what works as well before I waste a ton of energy on the wrong ways. Thanks

I don't want to use Aircraft stripper because it yellows the aluminum. I'm going to test the Jasco stripper today.

Heat to about 225 and put directly in blast cabinet. Stuff comes right off. Took about 3 passes to do the whole VC.

I think that is what a local NAPA machine shop did to fully strip mine. I tried the chemical stripping route without huge success.

Once the powder finish was stripped, then sanding and polishing until reaching a finish buf with 000 steel wool.. I used a dremel tool with a jewelers polishing brush (alternating between brass and stainless) on most all of the engine components.

It turned into an insane amount of work..

Does anybody know why the Early VH covers have the access panel on them? The late ones don't but they don't fit on early heads.

BTW ^ sweet looking motor.

Wow! After about an hour of work on my engine with the dremel I realized I did not have a clear grasp of what I was getting myself into and went and bought an abrasive blaster.
