Valve Cover bolt

I was tightening one of my valve cover bots cause i have a slight leak, now its loose it wont tighten or loosen off what can i do to get it off.

Stripped.

If you can, try to get a thin flat head screwdriver or putty knife under the bolt and apply upward pressure while you are trying to screw it back out. This works most of the time.

Once it's out, check to see if it's the bolt or the head that's stripped. If it's the bolt, obviously replace it. If it's the head, you can repair it with a thread repair kit from any auto parts store.

BTW: since you're going to all this trouble, just go ahead and replace the valve cover gasket. You will have a much greater chance of stopping your leak that way.
