I just refreshed my motor bearings, rings, pump, gaskets. I did not touch the head other than to power wash it. When I started it the first time i had some minor clatter from under the intake side valve cover. Well afeter the engine warmed up the clatter went away. I tolk it for a test drive tonight and when I got back the clatter was back. but as the car idled and cooled down the clatter went away.

I'm fighting the same thing. I've changed out the lifters and it didn't fix it. I'm about 90% sure it's lifter noise because if I rev the motor up so the oil pressure increases, the noise stops. The only thing I can think is that I've got an oil feed to the head partially blocked, or somehow when I cleaned it out, an oil passage for the lifters got plugged up.

I usually put the lifters in Diesel for a day or two, then change to oil. Works fine.

Can you buy cheap new CA18 lifters in USA? We can only find OEM here...

what oil are you using. I've heard this from using too thin an oil, when it gets too hot it gets WAY too thin
