Hey guys, when I run the engine on my 90 240 ka24e, it seems like the valves are banging against the valve cover...these are self adjusting valves and I was wondering how to fix the problem without taking the car in. Thanks

it might be your timing chain cus mine does that too it rattles liek crazy on start up and wen it warms up because the hydraulic tentioner fails to tention the chain and eventually it wears thru the cover and lets water pump into your oil and you get hydrolock and bend a rod(what i did) so watch your temp gauge cus u might just have the same problem. if you put really thick mobil 1 sythetic oil in it it helps for a while but the problem really should be fixed

yeah its a major headache but itll only get worse. if it snaps or wears through your engine is history. i just removed a new timing chain set from a sohc (obviously didnt fix all the problems) looks like a real chore to install one. if youre crazy enough to do it yourself $35+ shipping. car was run for maybe 2 miles with it. theres step by step instructions in the installs section. the fsm instructions are posted in this forum. the real pain is removing the crankshaft pulley and oil pump drive gear you need a puller for those. if you pry it youll damage it. i placed a coin in front of the crankshaft threads to protect em and it slid off easy.
