My wife helped me out last night by putting a hole in the oil pan of my '95 Q45. Can anyone tell me what range of years will fit my car. It has an automatic transmission - not sure if that matters. I was able to limp it to the garage where I work. I'm assuming no permanent damage has occurred since no lights came on in the dash and I kept stopping occassionally to add oil.

Also, I forgot to ask. Does it require a gasket or do I use RTV?

Thanks for your help.Tony

Wife + Q45 =

90-96 should be the same. It uses RTV.

I would call http://www.everythinginfiniti.com at 1-888-216-5328. Bill is very helpful in looking up parts and would tell you if there are any differences. They are also a discounted parts source, so I would consider just buying a new one from him if you're inclined to go that route.

Good luck with that job... it's a bear.

Welcome to NICO!

Thanks Heath.

I talked to Chris at everythinginfiniti.com. He thought the years that would fit would be 93 - 96. He may have been going by memory - I'm not sure. Anyway, the car-parts.com website shows 90 - 96 will fit my '95, so I think to be safe I'll try to stick with the same year. Found it for $100. Waiting on a shipping quote right now. As for how long it will take me, I hope not too long. I have access to lifts and an engine support that sits on the fender lip. Are there any other pitfalls I need to worry about?

Thanks again,Tony

For more than you'll ever want to know about oil pan R&R, read through tangalora's amazingly detailed thread:

And don't buy any dented ones in the slightest! The pickup sits very close to the pan bottom.

Well, it's done. Started at 11am yesterday and finished up at 9pm with about an hour break in there. I probably could have shaved off another 2 hours had I known all the right bolts to remove the first time. It definitely went together quicker than it came apart. I never did remove the front bracket that holds the lower belt tensioner. That would have made getting the oil pan in and out a lot easier. I didn't see an easy way to get that bracket out, so I left it.

I got a used oil pan from kurkeyautowrecking.com in Ravenna, OH for $100. It was dent free with a little surface rust. I highly recommend these guys if you need anything for a '92 Q45 or any other car you may need. They were very curteous and quick to respond to my request.

Let me know if anyone wants any tips or has any suggestions as to what would have made the job a little easier.

Thanks for all you help.Tony

Tony,

I hope I never need to ask you for those tips - but I'm glad it all worked out for you!
