I just bought a 09 M35. Seems that the valet key fob is an ingenious design with one flaw. My understanding of how the valet key works is you just disable the trunk unlock switch from the glove box, lock the glove box with the key that is inside the fob, and then give the fob (without the mechanical key) to the valet and hold on to the key. But what does the valet use to tag or hang the fob from? Anyone have a problem with the valet not knowing what to do with the fob?

When i pick up my car from being serviced, the fob is left in the little space infront of the cupholder. What do you mean about the "valet not knowing what to do with the fob"?

There is no key ring attached to the fob, so how does the parking valet hang it on their board or attach the ticket number to it?

I thought about that question too... I got a key blank (uncut) and put it in there. If I'm going out, I switch them before I exit my vehicle.

I concur that this is a brilliant idea. I have the seperator key fob and I'm gonna keep the blank inside the key, and put the functional key on the other sid eof the seperator.

You could even keep both (the blank and the true key) on the same key ring like I do with my standard fob currently, and simply select the blank when giving the fob to the valet person.

I think it is a brilliant idea for sure. Thanks, Andrew!

What kind of blank key are you guys referring to? I stuck my toyota key into the slot in the fob but it does not have the shape to lock in like the infiniti key.

Have you bought an blank uncut Infiniti key that will lock in? How much does one of those cost?

You're welcome. Sharing ideas and helping each other out is what makes this a great forum!

I purchased mine from my local Infiniti dealership. The key blank was about $12 about 2 years ago if I remember right (I know, a little expensive for a key blank but your options are limited as far as alternatives).

Here's a link to another dealership that you can order from online. They want about $20 for an M35/45 key blank (make sure you choose the right year).

Also contact Joe Tsensky at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com ... their prices may well be lower.

I ran into this situation recently when the valet went to look for my key.

I kept the metal key & had handed them the fob. With nothing to hang it on, they tucked the fob into a drawer and the original valet had not told anyone about it when he went home for the night.

It not hanging from the rack was an issue for them but they did not tell me they were having an issue until several tense moments on their part while collecting all of their valet's info and beginning a real search for the key.

The "tense" problem was that the lot where the cars were parked was not close by either so they had no idea if the car was actually in their posession any longer either.

If someone gets a moment, please tell what Joe T. wants for it.

You know, I think that Infiniti, or the dealer perhaps, ought to provide a blank along with each new car sale in the future. Cheap way to explain a good solution to an occasional problem.

That would be a simple but excellent way to go!
