i hate to make a thread for this, but a lot of the previous threads i have searched didnt have working pictures. so here goes:

im removing all of the emissions junk on my s13(ka24de) and i need to know what vac lines to keep. do i need to keep the metal hard lines on the back of the head? (i removed the head, replacing head gasket)

pictures would be nice.

also i've got a obx header that im going to install, but the o2 sensor wont fit in any of the holes. the thread pitch is likely different and is also a smaller diameter. does anyone have any idea what o2 sensor will work? or is it just typical obx crap? otherwise im just going to have the proper bung welded on.

thanks guys!

i just did this on mine a few months back. the only vac line i kept was to the FPR
Image
ignore the text, but the lines in red are the ones i kept. most of them are coolant lines. i kept all coolant lines. i think i may have missed one on there.
i also capped off the one circled in green and the little one on the TB
for the hardline thats in the big mess of them, i ended up cutting off the big mess so it was just that single line
Image
i may be missing something tho. hope this helps

What are you exactly removing?

There isn't much for emissions stuff so start off with anyways...

Seems you may have the wrong O2 sensor.

Only thing I kept on the front around the TB is the IACV. Capped everything else off, removed EGR, then just removed the T fitting that was going to the EGR and made that a solid hose.

i wish i could say i had the wrong o2 sensor, but the one i have came right out of my stock exhaust manifold. the threaded end is just too large to fit in any of the bungs on the header.

thanks for the replies guys this really helps!

Header has the small O2 sensor bungs then I guess. There is an adapter to go between the 2 types of O2 sensors. Ebay would probably be the cheapest.

I removed everything on my KA, and it runs perfect, idles great, no check engine light, etc.

The only vac line is for the FPR, and the IAC. No purge or egr or any of that crap

Here's what you NEED: FPR Line, Idle Intake Valve/Auxiliary Air Control Valve, Charcoal Canister Purge Valve (if you haven't removed).
You SHOULD have these going into a catch can and recirculating back into the intake: PCV, Valve Cover Vent, Charcoal Canister Purge Vent (if you haven't removed).

Don't see the point of removing the emissions....not like your going to gain any power, In fact you won't be able to run as much timing advance without the EGR.

Exactly what are you trying to achieve? O_o

Less crap under the hood, less weight, easier to work on. My car is track only but I would do the same on a street car

well i found out yesterday that somehow the stock o2 sensor does not fit my obx header, hovever the bosch 1 wire o2 sensor fits just fine. cost me $20, not too bad. now i just have to get a plug for the egr bung on the header, its a m22x1.5.

the reason im getting rid of my emissions stuff is just to clean up the engine bay and make it simpiler to put everything back together since im replacing the head gasket. i know, sounds lazy, but if i ever need to pass deq i am saving all the stuff to put it back.

well i went to all the fastener stores in in town in search of a m22x1.5 plug or bolt. couldnt find a thing. so i found a small piece of round stock and turned it on the lathe. this lathe doesnt cut metric threads so i just turned it down enough to slip into the bung then i brazed it in. also i had to drill out the holes on the flange of my obx header to get it to fit. its given me a lot of trouble with the o2 sensor, having to make and weld a plug and finally having to drill out the flange.

but i suppose for $200 dollars plus $16 for a new o2 sensor, plus my time making it fit, it wasnt a bad deal. i will have to get some pics up. i did some painting under the hood and it looks really good in my opinion.

If you don't want to weld it or anything like that, those size bolts are found as pipe stores. As in plumbing, hydraulics... that sort of thing.

for mine, i took the fitting off the EGR and welded a piece of flat stock on top of it. worked perfect

on my header, the fitting for the egr wasn't even close to threading in. thats why i turned down a piece on the lathe and used the gas welder to brase it in permanently. now i just need to find a gasket for the flared end of the header to fit on the flared pipe that attaches to the cat.

Shouldn't be a gasket, should just go together. That's what my header does.

well i found a donut gasket that works, but i think i have big problems. i replaced the headgasket and all the gaskets on the intake manifold, had the head machined, all new head bolts, new thermostat, new waterpump, new hoses, new belts, put it all back together and let it warm up drive it around, steam still coming out of the exhaust and wants to overhead. i have bled the coolent until the bleeder had a nice stream of coolent coming out, the temp gauge was steady at normal temp, but i took it out drove down the street hoping the steam would go away and no such luck. im just at a loss right now. im relocating 2 hours away to a new job tomorrow and trying to find an apartment. im glad i have another rig, but this is just so demoralizing.

tldr
replaced headgasket, still steam from exhaust, overheating, bled coolant system.

If your still burning coolant then it is still your head gasket. Maybe your head wasn't decked properly.
