Oh man my hearts still pounding. I was getting on interstate 80 going preaty quick, getting on off an on ramp I gave it some gas to pass the guys that were also getting on I80 before the lanes merged. I was in a pack of cars traveling 5-10mph quicker when the lazer siren screams... WTF.. Lazer? I thought they only had those on the NJ parkway.. I started looking for the light up signs that usually send off lazer when BAM to my left I see a nj troopers door reflect the cars headlights (this was at night)... ****.. they use lazer on I80!! My hearts pounding right about now.. I know I'm the one he shot, I was quickest in the pack, and now that I know it's lazer, he can pinpoint me out of the pack unlike other radar guns.. well I'm screwed.. but I see an exit come up and take it, I didn't care where it went as long as I got off the interstate so the trooper couldn't find me.. somehow I found route 46 which runs along 80 so I didn't get lost, but damn If I didn't have a radar detector that could detect lazer I would have never seen that cop (I wouldn't have been looking so hard for one, specially at night) and never taken that exit. He probably would have cought up within a mile to bring me down, or radio in ahead... TGFV1

I have to keep within the speed, that was just a wake up call. Next time there might not be an exit. By the way, I'm wondering how the cop would have found me? the S14 240sx is definelty not a common car. How would he have known my headlights were from a 97-98 240sx to know to look for a 97-98 240sx, especially at night? I bet if I turned my fogs off, detector off and pulled into the slow lane wouldn't have know it was me and just blow past me say there wasn't an exit. I wasn't the only car on the road.

Isn't it great to get out of a tight squeeze like that? You never see that kind of thing on "Cops". I've dusted a few of them in my day too. Shhhhhh, don't tell AZHitman...

Yea its pretty funny because cops only shows stuff in which they catch the people. I guarantee you close to half of their footage the criminal gets away. They just dont wanna show it, stupid propoganda.

Well obviously, they film for months at a time and only get an hrs worth of footage to show. I still like it tho :)

I don't know, I didn't give me any warning, just told me when I was shot. Police are getting realy smart now, and it's very difficult to get away with speeding even with the V1. I have yet to run into an always on radar. I always come across the leathal instant on.

Getting pulled over by a cop using a laser gun is very easy to get out of, it just takes some work. You just have to file for a discovery and get the calibration records and officer training records for the gun. Also, laser guns are notoriously inaccurate, most of the time, the cop is using the gun hanging his arm out the window of his car, laser guns need to be on a stable platform to be accurate. So sometimes you'll see a cop using the roof of his car as a platform...however the heat radiating from the car (heat coming from the heater or if it were in the day, heat from sunlight) causes the beam to fluctuate. If the gun is in the car, like on the dash board shooting through the windshield, the glass can refract the beam causing even more inaccuracy. To remedy this, sometimes they put the gun in the front grill of the car, this can be more accurate, but if the engine is running, the small amount of heat that escapes through the grill affects the beam as well (that's why Mercedes uses a radar for their Distronic adaptive cruise control, Lexus copied Mercedes' idea of an adaptive cruise control, but they used a laser..need less to say, their system was less successful). I live in the area where you are talking about, the Parsippany/Dover area and there are only one or two spots the state troopers hang out, one is that little field in front of a group of trees by the exit for Morris Plains where they usually park the snow plows and another spot about a mile up (westbound), other than that any other spot is pretty open so you can usually see them from a mile away, literally.

well I'm thinking of getting rid of my V1 it's got excellent range, it's serious piece of equipment but if the wrong person knows I have it, it will get stolen, or someone will try to break in by damaging my window, etc.

There is a site where the M3 guys picked apart the chase scene with a M3 running from the police. The suspect supposedly stopped at the end of the chase.

They relooped an earlier clip when the guy hit the brakes.

They cropped the speed and officer information out of the shot so it would look like he came to a complete stop.

The guy got away.

I am getting a V1 before we start heading out to tracks for this season.

wow sorry to bring this post from the dead, but It actually happened by the willowbrook mall. I was coming from passaic, going home in parsippany. I took the caldwell exit to escape from the cop, but it was that area where route 21 and 46 and 80 all get together and when u come from 46 to get on 80 theres a long merge.. thats where i was passing cars. I know where the speed traps on 80 are, so easy to speed. I like the one coming from parsippany going to the rockaway mall (west). If theres no cops there, i can test out my cars top speed because there wont be any for a while. (Till that dover area your talking bout)

Escort 8500 beat the V1 in almost all tests by numerous magazines/websites. the best place to check out it http://www.radarbusters.com go check em out and look at the 8500's test reviews from all the magazines etc. i think ill go with the cheaper 8500 ($330) vs. the $400 V1. check it out. btw, i hang out with the KC DTM club (yeah, the bmws) and V1 is not the #1 choice. check out the 8500.

On a long road trip from New Orleans back home to Dallas two weeks ago we got saved from TWO tickets with a 40 dollar Whistler Wal-Mart radar detector...I was incredibly suprise, but I'm still getting an 8500 when the car is up and going :)

I found those websites that didn't rank the V1 1st had the V1 equal to, or slightly lower then their "top" radar detector. Car and Driver's test showed the V1 beat all the other radar detectors significantly, which shows there is no hard evidence proving what radar detector is the best. The Passport is $330? Damn I thought it was $300. For $300 I might have considered it over the V1, but save $70 for what? I'd rather spend the extra money and get the directional arrows. You have no idea how useful they are. If your trying to save a few bucks, you shouldn't be looking at high end radar detectors in the first place.
