I don't often get a chance to test the Q, but last night I was out for a leisurely cruise with my wife when a new RSX Acura came weaving behind me on the on ramp to the freeway. As I expected he hit the gas and swung out across to the far lane before we even hit the merge area. Things didn't work out as he expected though. Even being late on the throttle ensured he stayed well back in my mirror. I suspect he may have gone home and looked up Q45 on the net to find out what just dusted his new investment. I checked out the RSX also, 200HP in a smaller car - hmmm .. not bad. I keep seeing the advertised HP in some of the newer vehicles. Most of the new infiniti's for example claim 260 HP and more. Can the Q with it's 278 and extra weight still hold it's own against these new comers?

It all comes down to physics. F = ma. Ignoring differences in gearing, assuming similar efficiencies, a relative comparison off the line can be simplified by comparing hp to weight ratios. So it seems reasonable that your Q can beat a 3000lb car putting out 200hp, probably to any speed or distance. But gearing does make a difference and can either help or hurt depending on your speed. I'm amazed by the Q's power, but I'd still be wary of challenging a notably lighter car putting out 260hp. Top speed is an entirely different story, since weight has no impact. Drag is a function of the square of velocity, so if your car's top end is higher overall, drag will impact the other vehicle substantially more the faster you go. I don't know what a G35 tops out at, but if you had to race one, you'd probably have a better chance racing to 120mph than to 80mph. Good kill story BTW.

Those Q's are amazing...did they all come in automatic or were there any 5 spds produced?

i think a tricked out q would be hindered, time wise ,buy an 5 speed..dont think i would claim it as a kill.[QUOTE] Can the Q with it's 278 and extra weight still hold it's own against these new comers?im afraid not for long.are we talking new comer v-8s.lots of little cars out there that would own a Q in the quarter.sad but true.**** you got 4 banger 4 doors doing twelves. and 13s.im sure that a some of are 240 brothers can give a q a run.

very very few 4's run the quarter in the 12's+13's, even most V8's or V8 "muscle cars" dont. The big Lincoln V8's town cars etc (not the LS) run low 16's.

mostly true, btu there are lots of go fast modded cars out there.thats what im talking about.you got to hook up definitally.what im really saying is dont underestimate your street opponent.no matter what hes driving.like a 240 z w/v-8,how nostalgic.like lots of jags w chevy engines and running gears.pick and pick wisely i say.you do definatall have a good point.its true.lincolns deserve to run 16s.how pathetic.but its just a american luxo.heavey cheap powered by ford.im sure theres better examples.a new one wanted to race me on freeway.i laughed and held up 6 fingers.what a idiot go pick on a cadillac.Almost without exception the LS1 powered F bodies run in the high to low 13's bone stock. My auto transmission 02 SS ran 13.6 right out of the box.on the money.my friends ford lightning runs low 13s,cant hook up.sad but true.im a ford hater yes thats right and i dont care who knows it.its funny tho seeing a 4 banger hit 12s and you didnt even hear him.kinda gives you a new way of lookin at things.on your street or freeway there are no rules.so choose wisely.that 71 r/t might just do 9s and drive to work every daty.my friends did.9.30.he used these big *** wheelies on the street.crazy bastard.hed roll foward and bring her up .he was pretty good driver.

While it is true there are a few fast 4 bangers, the important word is few, very few. I have spent many a night at Gainesville Raceway drag racing my old Camaro and E55. Almost without exception if a 4 cylender got below 16 seconds it was greeted by cheers from the import crowd. Almost without exception the LS1 powered F bodies run in the high to low 13's bone stock. My auto transmission 02 SS ran 13.6 right out of the box.

Anyone ever hear the story that the early Q's were "under rated", as there was something about how much HP an exported car could have?

Very few.W/o either forced induction/the bottle/shorter diff we are lucky to hit the hi 14's.

But on hiway rolling starts we can beat Z28's (except maybe the newer LS1's...)

There ARE a lot of 4 cylinder cars that are very very fast. Cars such as the gsx eclipse, talon tsi, and the laser are highly modifiable. For example my brother has a 1990 gsx eclipse with i believe a 2.0 liter engine and it is pushing well over 500 horses without the use of nos. Newer car's such as wrx's and evo's can produce the same if not better results than that! Anyways, I have a 1997 Q45. I am workin on modifying it some! Can't wait to see the results. If anyone has any suggestions i'd be gald to hear em.

Ahhh yeah....another thing.......i test drove an RSX the other day...i odn't really believe it has 200 hp.....but it is possible......i believe the transmission is set up specifically for tuning(at least the five speed auto was) The car was able to go well over 80 in second gear....to make a transmission such as that worthwihle there would have to be at least 300 horses. i believe that car would me much faster if it were geared much lower

I'll be looking for an RSX to dust.

My good friend owns Bell Acura (Phx's largest Acura dealer). I'll have to set up a "friendly wager" as he's still BENT that I didn't buy an Acura TL from him... :D

p.s. Spanked a modded Jetta Friday night with my wife in the car. 0 to around 90. Retard with a fartcan thought he'd pass Quella on the outside going onto the freeway.

Later, clown. :fruit

Everyone that has an RSX here, are a bunch on candy***'s, you line up to them and they turn on their blinker and turn on to the side road.

Many new sport cars and sport sedans have added more HP in recent years, but peak torque on the non-v8s are usually rather high. You have to spank a Honda S2000to redline to get the torque. I have outran a 260HP Maxima at highway speed 70-125. I raced my buddy's WRX...He was next to me to about 80mph with the stick shift. After that, it was like he just parked the car because I lost him out of my rear view mirror.

4 bangers runnin 13's...(gasping) unheard of ;) there's a lot of em running around though. not sure what the average b16 owner runs but i know they're damn quick. beware of the random honda.those rsx's are nice rides but not exactly living up to what they're supposed to be replacing. gotta be taking them to redline to take advantage of the whole vtec thing if i remember right.
