has anyone done this yet without extensive work moving the engine further back in the bay? from the pics i have seen of the swap it doesn't look like there is alot of room between the engine and the front of the car.

Doesnt seem like there is any room for a V-mount in the S14, let alone the S13 chassis.

Would be nice though, huh? I want my car to look as stock as possible.

If you don't plan on making a lot of power and you use a short (bottom of fins to top), wide intercooler... it might work. Try looking into a new Saab 9-3 intercooler and modify the endtank inlet/oulet locations. Blackstone makes the cores for those, or at least they use to, and they make a quality unit. Take some measurements first.

See my post about moving the radiator... might help out with a V-mount.

yeah, when i actually get started my goals are about 300whp, just enough to mess with the V8s and riceboys around here (the import thing is just now starting to really hit oklahoma i think, so most of the people are still in that "riceboy" stage)

do you think it is possible to hit 300whp (i think that would be like 350hp to the crank) with about 1500 in mods after the swap. i am still in the R&D phase of this project (i am hoping to have a car by the end of summer, and possibly the clip by x-mas break)

*edit*

also, wouldn't it be beneficial to get a hood with cowel induction to help draw air threw the intercooler?

I think he is talking about putting spacers in the back of the hood to prop it up and make a "heat extraction hood" out of the stock one.

ahh, i don't think that would work for this particular application though, the "extraction" would be too far back in the engine bay, as where the cowel induction hood would be right over the intercooler, and i think that would make the aftermarket hood more effective

Wow... those supra taillights are horrid.

I think he intends for the intercooler and cowl to function like the Sard Supra:

Look at the engine bay (part way down the page) - http://members.tripod.com/kaferjca0/3sgteinfo.htm

Here is the hood -

I'm not an rb guru, but do you really think the v mount set up is necessary. If airflow is that important I think apex makes an intercooler that flows more air to the radiator. I cant remember the model of the top of my head.

it isn't just the increased airflow to the radiator, but you get better throttle response (if it is properly set up) because you will have alot less IC piping

yup. i think if the cowel was directly over the intercooler (or as close to being directly over the intercooler) as possible it would work more effective getting the air out of there faster instead of it hitting the bottome of the hood then traveling the length of the engine bay to get out of there. instead of it hitting the windshield and causing turbulence it would get sucked out of the top of the hood and then slipstream over the rest of the car (if that makes sense)

i like a little pizzaz, and it would be something functional as well.

i am still in the R&D phase of my project (i still havn't even found a car yet) i am looking for one with a trashed motor but a straight body (hard to find around here) i am looking at all my options and weighing them (kinda doing a cost benefit analysis and stuff like that)

the hood vent is nice.or grab a old windshield washer resevior along with the pump and create a misting system. total should be about 60 bucks in parts. There really is no room for the v mount

yeah, that is what i am thinking without a bunch of headache. but i think i can reach my HP goals with an sr20det for about the same cost as an RB20/25det so i may try it out with that, still not sure though. but on a good note, i may have found me a shell to start with for about 300 bucks, waiting to hear from the guy.

yeah, no doubt, the swap and the car has gotten alot of attention since SCC did their build a sivlia for 3000 bucks and all of the coverage of drifting events and stuff. i have wanted one for about 4 years now (since my senior year in high school) and i am just now where i may be able to actually get one, so i have been researching and finding everything i can since then, so hopefully i will make a wise choice
