With what room on a street car? Unless you run it like ashtray racing and have it sticking through the hood?

Doesn't Tein have the RB26DETT S15 that has a v mount setup, but the firewall was cut and the motor moved back 2-3 cylinders. I think the front of the engine was completely behind the strut towers.

Yeah a V-mount isn't very simple as far as fabrication and space goes for an RB. Believe me, i've done a few RB swaps and i've thought about it, but it required extensive firewall modification and lots of patience.

You could most likely do it if you made your own core support, along with a custom radiator. I'm not sure how functional it would be since your coolers would most likely been in your bumper skin...

Its a waste IMO. To much work for the outcome with an RB. I guess if you want to be different tho..

There was a car recently put up for sale that has an RB Vmount setup.

You can tell the firewall was moved back, and he has a custom core support.

Heres his build thread

Wow... all that custom fab in the engine bay and they just rolled the fenders?

I bet the throttle response is crisp.

i still am working on the core support to brace the rad better and give the front end some more support, also still modding the drivers side end tank to eliminate the 180 deg loop. and to keep the intake short. also im about to install a custom JUN cooling mod, will send twisted99s10 pics of the balance tube i just welded up.

Wow, I was skeptical but I like it!

IMO don't cut up your C/F hood until you get a chance to really test that setup out!

interesting...did you add any air guides to the sides to actually force air thru both the radiator and the ic?

If you're planning on tracking that, you may want to rethink the relocater bracket and 350z rotor.

was that on your car? i tried a few 60-0 100-0 140-0 stops over and over, made sure nothing was rubbing, the caliper was rubbing when i first installed everything but now shimmed it out and there smooth, thoes rotors in that picture look very small, not like the ones im using. i have a pair of slotted brembos redrilled to 4x114.3

to carl h, im still building the ducting to the oil cooler off to the pass side of the car, then ill build the ducting on the sides of the i/c and rad. its funny but even with out the ducting the car runs at 165-175 at wot, im waiting to finish welding up the driver side i/c piping to install the ducting so its less stuff to pull off when fabbing everything up.

Not my car. I run the R33 gts25t brakes all the way around. This was on a friends Z32 TT during the last track session of the day. He had done many track sessions with them before they went. My best guess is that with the pads only covering the outer section of the rotor caused that area to heat up faster than the inside and then all the clamping force is on the very outside of the rotor acting like a lever.

the rotors he used dont look to high of quality, are they ebay rotors? ive had to many bad experiences with cross drill and slotted rotors, they crack at every drill hole and had the drivers side rotor crack in half in a similar was the one in the picture did

hey maryjane, I saw your setup and I became very intrigued by the setup. Did you had to make some intensive modifications to the firewall to your S13? I have recently came up with the theory of a v-mount for a RB20DET in a S13, and thought that it might improve the efficiency of the engine, but it is just a theory. I was wondering if you can post some more pictures of the finished product? Or if you can email the pictures to me, and tell the procedures you went through and some of the modifications you had to do to make it work.

Regards.

Wish I had the tools to push back the firewall. I love hardcore builds like the ones above!

So are there any other updates or people with v-mounts that they can share? I am curious if modifying the firewall on a S13 is the only way for the v-mount to work? Are there alternative ways to fitting a v-mount, and still have a comfortable clearance?

nope i never had to do any modding on maryjanes car to get the vmount, had to cut into the rad core support tho, removed everything from the vmount, the rb26/28 from maryjanes car is now in my r32 gtst and a 400ttsbc with a powergride is going in maryjanes car.....

Hey SullivanRacing06, I was wondering, then, will I have more room to spare if I was to setup a v-mount in a RB20DET in a S13 engine bay? Do you have pictures of the build for maryjanes' v-mount setup? How was the performance afterwards? Was there a lot of comfortable clearance in the engine bay? Also, I am assuming you guys had to make a custom tubing for the v-mount setup, correct?

Edit: I almost forgot. Did you find that the v-mount improved the car's response and/or performance at all, and also with the cooling?

Cheers

yes it improved t response even with a t78-33d on a rb28...

ended up making ducting on either side to force air thru the rad n i/c
