I've been doing some research because im in the proccess of rounding up parts for my soon ka-t and the front mount intercooler is alright but im not tring to get noticed just want to keep my stock look, I did some research and couldnt really find any answer becasue I either want to do the v-mount or the side-mount but i got a couple questions, what kind of modifications would be needed for the v-mount? I've seen them on some s-15 but i could not really get a close detailed picture to see the setup,I know as far as modifying your radiator but im assuming there are a couple other things, and for the sidemount is it a direct bolt on with a t/25 bottom mount manifold or would I have to modify some of the pipeing to fit? appreciate you for looking..

Side-mount

V-mount

for the v-mount it will take a lot of fabrication to get it o fit in there and stuff, and u have to make a hood air duct fit up with the intercooler to actually make it worth it. If there is no hood air duct to it then there really isn't a point to have an intercooler. I say go for the side mount. much easer.

^ What he said..

They are a pain in the azz to get setup, and to get them to work properly.

Just a suggestion, but this is what I did. Just trim out the front bumper, and cover with 'ricer-mesh'. Kinda stealthy/stock looking.

Your best bet for a IC if the FMIC isnt an option is the water/air cooler.

big hole in hood to let air out from IC.

V mount is for off road use only!! If you get pulled over and your radiator support is cut up your car will be declared unroadworthy and will be towed on the spot.

My FMIC brand is XS Power. Was an eBay generic that has worked pretty good so far. I didn't mount it as secure as I wanted to. But the way the bumper is held on by the bottom, it helps support it if anything was to come loose.

Yes, my power steering reservoir was relocated to that empty spot by the clutch master. Looks stock huh?

I know I'm not utilizing the whole Intercooler, but it does make for a little more headroom and keep everything from getting heat soaked. I also have two electric fans on the back side of my Koyo. One 16" for a main fan, and a 12" as the A/C, or 220 degree helper.

Paint your I/C black. Mine is hardly noticeable, you wouldn't even realize it was there unless you were looking for it. on top of that, it looks like a black radiator or something.

That's what I'd do (and what I plan to do on my car).

Painting an IC black makes it heat up a little more and become less efficent. Also, if you do, try to get an extremely thin coat.

I'd recommend 'tuner mesh' in black to hide an IC myself...

Actually there was a website that I saw that tested that, and the black had little to no effect on the intercooler. The tiny amount of the difference it made didn't effect performance at all.

Wasnt just any website either, im thinking that either turbonetics or Garrett did that research. I know it was a huge name that said a light coat of black on an IC had little to no effect on its cooling efficiency.

yup garret did it.
Garrett Faqs Page wrote:# I want my car to remain a sleeper/stealth. Can I paint or anodize my intercooler so it is not easily visible?Yes! It is not uncommon at all for an intercooler and endtanks to be anodized black to keep attention away from the car and help it maintain a sleeper appearance. A very light coat of paint on the core and endtanks is also another option, usually much cheaper and easier than anodizing, with a negligible performance loss.

Does anyone have the link to the testing Garret did on this?? I've heard so many people talk about it, but I have yet to see it myself.
