Down goes my Q Looks like the first real problem neither my friends nor I could figure out or fix. Dollied my Q 40 miles up the road to the foriegn auto place. Looks like she'll be there a few days

Since it's there I'm having them do the under plenum hoses, replacing of injectors, O2's, knock sensors, resealing of the valve covers as well as replacing my AC/ stuff which does not work either. They'll be checking my suspension work so I'll know if I'm worth a damn as a DIY'R.

Looks like a little over 1000 bucks to get her back and I have all my parts in the trunk..

Sad, so sad, loneliness seems to be the only word....

Won't go past 2000 rpm's. I used all 3 TCU's I have and none of them worked, so it not the TCU. Last time something like this happened I couldn't get past 4500 rpms and the culprit was the MAF. I took the MAF off and cleaned it good as well as check all the connections and it still doesn't work. No oil or grease in or on the CAS to have made it jump modes and nothing else has worked.

I got sick today being out in this heat and humidity working on her. I think I lost 10 lbs in sweat alone. Thought I was going to pass out, so I pushed myself with some friends and we still couldn't fix her. That's the short of it. I'm just now recovering from the ordeal.

Have you tried swapping in a known good CAS.. thats the likely culprit. i would assume you have a CEL, correct?

I don't have another CAS to swap it with. CEL? I'm confused as to your meaning. I have a Cell phone. 252-342-9644. My head isn't working so well right now. I'm about to crash for the night. I'll get the verdict from the shop tomorrow hopefully or maybe the day after that. Later..

CEL = Check Engine Light

Check for corrosion at the base of the MAF plug where the wires enter. Then check engine ground paths.

Nope. No warning or check engine lights ever came on. Nothing.

I thought in Infiniti speak we don't use the term CEL, but use the term MIL????

Good luck Red.

I have an old CAS laying around. However the dealer around here says they only see one ordered every OTHER year, meaning it's a rare failure item. My last Q had that problem. It was actually the CAS connector. I pulled the rubber off to find a partially broken wire. I resodered it and it was back to the same! I too couldn't go above 2k rpm.

Interesting.... Thanks! I haven't heard from the shop today so they must be busy at work on the Q. Tomorrow I have off so I have to go and give them two more things to install on the Q, including a new sunroof wind deflector. I'm sure they will be thrilled to see me...!!

So far the Knock sensors are bad and throwing code as well as both ignition module harnesses being completely destroyed due to heat. That's just the start.....

Plus not all the hoses under the plenum are included in Joe's kit either.

No, they are not. Neither are the heater hoses which are expensive, but seldom more accessible.

From 2003, so prices have changed:

EVERY hose on the engine including the brake hose to one way valve and the 2 fuel hoses from the engine return and to filter] [plus the ones on the engine] and the hoses to fuel evap canister............every rubber hose in the bay.....except maybe the wiper washer. Include the heater core hoses

Total is : $705.77 (NICO price)

that is Violent for hoses - when my plenum was done there were some that did not need replacement and we used some generic hoses where there were no funky formed hoses needed

All depends how soon you want to be back under the plenum again.

I just spent another $500 on the Q for some hoses, sensors and harnesses. The Knock sensors I previously bought from a NICO member here a little while ago were both bad!

Sponsor Plug: (Joe at Everything......had everything In stock and My Mech will have the stuff Fri by Noon. My Mech was amazed at the price I got for everything. He said He could never had got Knock sensors from any Infiniti dealer for less than 170.00.) I guess that says allot.

Back to the bitterness. That makes it twice now I've bought some used engine parts from people here and have been ripped off. I can assure you it won't happen again. It's taken a year, but I have learned my lesson...

Sadly, wear items are almost never worth much used because of their unknown remaining life. Wheels, driveshafts, AC compressors, steering racks, even electronics all have a limited life. Best to buy new when one needs a replacement part.

Good luck on your Q, red. I am jealous you have a technician.

And I know that, you know what I mean? I guess you hold out hope that this is a perfect world and it's really not. At least I'm not working on the Q this time or it would be weeks before I was back on the road.

I think I hooked up with a good shop, so we'll see just how much TOP RAMEN soup I have to eat before I can afford real food again. If anybody owes me any money, now is a good time to pay me back. I accept canned goods too!!

What happens when you don't have a second or third job to generate the $2500-$3000 in ANNUAL Maintenance and repair costs [prorated from brand new].

Easy to buy a used Q that needs $11,000 because the previous owner didn't spend enough.............why a $40,000 [1991 dollars] gets depreciated down to [$1-2-3,000 in 2005 dollars].

$11,000 in todays dollars is just pennies compared to 1991 dollars.

Few owners spend ENOUGH to keep a Q even close to acting like near new.

Somebody make a sign and stand on the road [take pictures please]......" will work for money [or parts] to fix up my old Q" " Used kids food money for repairs"
