I just purchased some rims for my S13. 16x8 +15 Sportmax 501 I pulled the size 225/50/16 completely outta my arse..seems a decent fit, yes? However, the tire I want is apparently not available in this size as listed on FRSport (Federal SS595). They carry 215/55 and 245/50. So I naturally think 245s..nice and wide!...............To the stickies!--where I read "wider not necessarily better" and browse through the Yokohama site, enter various sizes into the calculator(original link is broken BTW)..and now I have approximately 9,876,543.369 sizes that don't look to bad. So as the title says, I'm utterly frickin' confused and probably over-analyzing things.

Other Info: Planned usage: Weekend driver/ occasional autox/open track day.(newbie so I don't need R-comps or anything)...some wet tracton would be nice too. Car: S13 HB, Megan street coilovers, 16x8 +15....RUCAS coming soon. Reason for tire choice: Right in my budget range..I know they're often referred to as "drift tires" but I've heard they are decent autoX tires as well...and budget. Random: I don't want to "stretch" the tire, I have a seperate set of rims for getting sideways.

All this basically to ask 245/50 or 215/55 for track days/autoX? Or is there a better tire for my purposes in the same price range with maybe a better size?I really feel like a dumbass, so just point me in the right direction, and it would be much appreciated.

BFG G force sport.

cheapin the 225 50 sizedecent grip (ive seen them on local autox and track cars)and they last a long time for how much grip they have.and they look awesome.

Just dont expect ot be keeping up with those on azenies or potenza RE01Rs

225 50 will fit squarely on the 16x8, which is important for stiffer sidwall and quicker response.

225/50/16 is in my opinion the best size for a 16x8 rim. If you are set on the federals than maybe consider a 205/55/16. The sidewall height is almost identical to a 225/50/16. It would be a slight stretch, but nothing crazy.

The other sizes you mentioned are pretty chubby. 215/55/16= late 90s maxima and the 245 even chubbier. Chubby sidewalls not good for steering response.

225/50/16 on 16x8
