UTI is Universal Technical Institute, it's for mechanics. I would say yes, if that's what you want to do, it is worth it. At least, it's worth what you make of it. My buddy graduated from UTI down here in Rancho, he was the top of his class all the way through, worked his *** off. Now he's been accepted to the Porsche program so in a month or so he's moving to Georgia for the Porsche training and then he goes to work in dealerships.

I used to work for them in their corporate offices.

It's worth the money if that's what you want to do, but be careful. You get into any sorta trouble with the law and they will drop you in a heartbeat. The tuition money is non-refundable. don't hotdog in your car near the campus either. They will drop you for that too.

well to answer that I would ask how much does it cost, and what do you get out of it?

It costs alot, and yes they can be like cheesy car salesmen because they are indeed trying to SELL you on their school. It is a trade school, much like Devry or ITT or any of those, but it's also a very good one IF YOU TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. They teach you alot, it's just up to you to learn it. They wont care so much if you're not learning it, if you do well enough to get by, who cares. If you **** up, they kick you out and keep your money.

if you want to work at a dealership fixing cars its a great place to be

if you want to make them better/faster its not. dont buy into all the hype about the hod rod program and the nascar school. they are VERY small portions of the total cirriculum but thats all you hear about when your recruiter will walk you around. they will lie and bull**** you as much as needed to get you to sign up.

UTI is a business. they only care about making a profit, not making a quality product (the student).

Yeah. Their enrollment "counselors" are less than stellar. They are sales people plain and simple. Don't let them try to tell you otherwise. Most of them, other than the field sales ones that travel to high schools and such, work in a call center.

In a heartbeat.

They also own MMI (Motorcycle Marine Institute). They usually end up kicking out several people a "semester" for hot dogging it on their bikes.

They are even more restrictive at their automotive campuses than they are at their motorcycle ones. At their Nascar Technical Institute campus they dumped a student that had been arrested for DUI, even though it happened on his own time away from school.

It's in your contract when you sign up.

They're not just a business. They're a public company. Money is the king at UTI.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

Here is an example of a local community college. http://www.arc.losrios.edu/catalog/AutoTech.pdf

my buddy just graduated recently and i believe he's going to study the audi's on the east coast. theyre starting him off at 12 bux an hour or something like that. I know it sounds really low, but he said that you'll work your way up really fast. I'mma see how he does in a year or so before i consider looking at it. the good thing about uti i guess is that you dont have to take general ed classes that you'll prob. never need for your future, i.e. photography, aerobics; you get down to business. idunno, ive been at csulb for like 4 years as a sophmore status, and i feel like i'm moving backwards, lol.

I know a couple UTI people, they seem to like it. I am enrolled and about a year into my program at OTC, Ohio Technical College, which was way cheaper and local and I'm very pleased with it thus far. You'll get much more recognition from manufacturers and dealers coming from a tech school as opposed to a community college.

So, it sounds like local tech schools are much better then say tech schools that are around the usa.

That greenville tech school seems 10x better then UTI to be honest. It takes a year just for a nissan certification. They go so in depth its insane.

Well I work at SEARS auto and we have to go to these training classes every once and a while. I talked to a guy there that was a recent grad from UTI in TX, he spent 15k to work at SEARS for $5.50/hr +comission which equals about $80 bucks a day total.

UTI=not worth the money if you ask me
