I was doing the head gasket on my 91 fastback and i snapped the intake cam in halve(don't ask). So can a used cam be put back in? would it have to be machined to match the heads journals? Are all KA cams machined to the same journal diameter?

What i'm asking is, if you want to swap out a cam, do the cam and head have to be machined to match each other?(journals, bearings and caps) Or can you just take the old one out and put the new(used) one in?(all valve and ignition timming issues aside)

from what I understand the cams are precision machined so they should all be the same.I've also never heard of anyone doing anything to the cams.

scruffy is correct, all the cam journal dimensions are the same. You will want to check and/or adjust your valve lash tho.
