Is there a way to use the VIN to determine the specific model / version of a 350Z?

I have read about decoding the VIN, but it does not seem to get down to the model (base, enthusiast, performance, touring, or track)?

A lot of car lots and some owners do NOT know and call the cars what they want. I see a lot of 03 or 04 cars being called "Touring Editions," where the car has the Manual Transmission, BUT has the 17", seven spoke wheel instead of the 18", six spoke wheels? The 6 speed manual transmission Touring Edition would have the 18" wheels.

I assume the manufacturer has a master list or a code enable to determine, so the Dealerships could find out. But was hoping one of our NICOs had Stolen the List or Broken the Code..... gc

i have wondered the same thing, much like the Z32's have the "c" in the vin to dsesignate the turbo models, it would make sence to have a code designation in the vin, but I have not yet heard of them doing so, in the Z31's they had a model code in the vin tag that gave code for GLL models but not in the vin itself, might have something like that?
