I've been thinking for quite some time to pick-up a 2012+ QX56 as our primary family car. I love the look and size of the truck since it can "act" as a minivan once I remove the 2nd row console. I plan to get a 4WD model if that matters.

My main question here is in regards towing a enclosed car trailer to the track / events. I'm thinking about a 20-24' enclosed trailer that holds my NSX which is not a heavy car but with the added weight my friends say I need a diesel truck which I'm trying to avoid.

This would be maybe a 1-2 times per year thing so not often for sure.

He was asking if the QX56 has:

a) Auto correct load height adjustment
b) Air bags or overload springs
c) Trailer brake control
d) transmission cooler
e) Upgraded brakes or brake pads

I know the QX is rated for 8500 lbs but is there any key items I need to upgrade or ensure the car has from the dealer as must have options? Is the OEM hitch adequate?

thanks guys!

have you test driven one? have you been to the dealer to ask these questions?

to help you out:

load adjuster in rear with air bags
you can purchase a brake controller
upgraded brakes/pad compared to what?

if nothing else get the HBMC and AWD options on the 2011+ qx.

you are welcome to upgrade brakes/pads to your hearts content.

test driving one is highly recommended. dont simply ask for opinions on the internet.

I have driven one at dealer on a test drive. However I did not know to ask those questions before so this is why I'm asking here. Thank you for the info!

On my test drive, the sales guy opted to show me how fast the SUV was and proceeded to race an IS-F at a stoplight prior to letting me drive. The irony was I owned an IS-F so the race actually was pretty cool timing since it showed me just how crazy fast this SUV really was :) This made me want the truck more but we currently have two SUV's (small 5-seaters) thus we are looking to get a larger one for our growing family.

thanks again!
