Is it true that you can turbo charge your KA and upgrade the injectors, add turbo and inter cooler and run it with the stock ecu with no problem??? Can anybody tell me if that is true?

I think you can, but it's NOT safe past 6-7psi....

**Disclaimer**: I'm not responsible for what you do with my response. I recommend searching because it has definitely been asked a few times...

You will need something to control your bigger injectors, unless you swap your MAF.I have read that you can use a Z32 MAF with 370cc injectors without any ECU of piggyback change. Add to that list better fuel pump and timming retard of 1/2 degree per PSI seen on the engine.Your boost pressure will depend on the turbo you choose, 7 psi on a t28 is NOT the same as 7 psi with a full blown T3/t4.

No to all of your questions, and the 370cc injectors are with the N60 maf not N62. But it has not been really proven yet.

As for stok ECU. Your ECU is configured for the set up you pretty much have from factory.

Unless you use something like a piggy back to tell the ECU that you are using larger injectors you are out of luck.

Only thing you can really do on stock ecu and no piggy back, is get a RRFPR (Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator) Which is used with stock injectors, and it raises the fuel pressure to the injectors as it see's boost.

But something like that is safe for maybe 8psi tops.

If I was you, Id get at least something like a SAFC, believe me it's worth it and they go for dirt cheap now days.

yeah, you can run as stated, N60/370's, and that should for the most part accomidate for fuel, then retard 3-4 degrees on the dizzy, get a wideband and a SAFC just for monitoring a bit... this has quickly become a ghetto setup, so just head over to http://eccs.hybridka.com and get some 550's and a N62 and find a tune from somebody on there... much better off this way.

The easiest way to run boost with stock injectors is just to add a FMU into the fuel system.

Done and Done.

So basically if you run FMU on your stock injectors is it required to still change your MAF sensor or can it stand?

I'm suprised no one pointed out that this is stickied in the FAQ in 2 seperate posts.?.?

It is 100% proven that you can run on stock injectors and ECU up to 8psi. (With no piggyback or Fuel management) It sounds like most people run around 6psi in case of boost creep though.

Personally I will be running a stock ECU and MAF with an SAFC2 until I can afford to drop the $$$ on a standalone system.

This thread is almost 2 years old...

You CAN run your stock ECU with stock injectors and MAF and safely push 7-8PSI with an FMU and a little timing retard at the dizzy (just in case).

You CANNOT swap out the MAF or injectors and expect the stock ECU to run well, or possibly run at all.

Enthalpy ROM tunes are only $500, much better then the hassle of using an SAFC and tuning it right.

Just to reiterate...

If you add boost you have to add fuel. If that's not clear enough then you really aren't ready to add a turbo yet.

We're here to help you guys. The dumbest question is the one you don't ask which leads broken parts. So if you're uncertain, by all means ask away.

1/2 the posts are here are retarded.

FUEL

Injectors have a duty cycle. When 100% duty cycle is reached, no more fuel can flow through that injector.

How to get more fuel out of an injector?(crude way) bump up fuel pressure or use a rising rate fuel pressure regulator.

How do I get more fuel beyond the 100% duty cycle point?(safe way) Larger injectors whether it would be 370cc (stock sr injectors for mild setups) 550cc injectors for average street setups, or 1000cc's for race setups.

Under boost the motor uses more fuel that it does out of boost, so that being said.. if your using the fuel maps for a N/a motor on your boosted KA, it will lean out and detonation will occur.

Timing

People say to retard the dizzy 4 degrees or whatever, that's stupid. If you drive the car every day (say under 3k rpm), then its going to feel like donkey doo doo. yes it will 'work' but will feel sluggish while cruising in town.

The correct way to tune timing:

The stock KA ecu has an N/a timing map. there is a lot Total timing on a naturally aspirated car than a boosted car. If you run say.. 32 degrees total timing on a motor seeing 10 psi of boost, it has the potential to detonate.

option a) run race gas every where you drive $$$$$B) edit the timing maps to account for boost.

Ways to tune fuel and timing and account for injectors

Spend hours fiddling with your wideband and safc (crude)Rom tune - parameters for your motor are now embedded in the ecu telling it what the acutal motor setup is rather than changing maf values to compensate.

Your reply is generic and confusing. The answer is simple.

If you want to run 8psi of boost or less just install a FMU. Then bump the timing back 2 degree's.

For the most part you're using this setup with a cheap T25 anyway. So there is NO lag or lack of power. You're basically at full boost when you tip in the throttle.

FMU's work great and they are cheap. That's just fact. People that call them crude or whatever aren't working with a limited budget. Not to mention it requires no tuning.

You talk about adding 550cc injectors like it's something any lamen can do. I suppose you can if you have a few hundred bucks for a new ECU and then you'll be swapping out the MAF and other things since they have reached their limits. Or you can try tuning with a piggy back or even rom tuning yourself. All of which requires significantly more budget and know how.

The FMU allows people with a very limited budget to enjoy the world of turbo's. Everyone starts somewhere...the key is to get started.

Thanks for tipping the scales for the retards randy!

8:1 FMU. WBO2 system+ safc. 3 street dyno runs data logged, tuned, done. Reliable, simple, tuned for cheap. Safe for 8 psi and under all day long. In addition, once you get the boost bug, you have your SAFC and WBO2 already ready to go to fine tune your rom tune.

Its kinda funny, usually, the only people who really bash FMU's are people who have just read things and have never used them, ect ect. The people who use them love them for the most part.
